The Paramathi region was ruled by the Vettuva Gounder King Allalan Ilaya Nayakan dynasty. It is evident from inscriptions and ancient copper plates that Vettuva Gounders constructed dams for irrigation purpose.
Allalan Ilaya Nayakar ruled from Vadakarai Aththur, Paramathi Seemai (Velur, Namakkal) during the Madhurai Thirumalai nayakkar period. He belongs to ‘Moola Vettuva Gounder’ which is a sub sect of the Vettuva Gounders. Nayakkar was the title given to him by Madhurai Nayakkars in the token of love. The temple is said to have been built by Allalan Ilaya Nayakar during his rule.
The main deity is Goddess Amman called as Sri Ponkaali Amman. It is believed by the community that Amman brings Prosperity to the people.

Sri Vinayakar Temple is located in kanni moolai ( South west) area and also in artha mandapam (within temple).
Sri Thoratti Marathan is the god below the Thoratti tree. It is believed that the tree flourished after the God and so called Patta maram thailantha Thoratti Marathan.
Sri Maruthayyan has separate sanctum within the temple.
Sri Ragu & Sri Kethu below Vaani tree which is special.
Sri Silambaraayi Amman is located in Maha mandapam which is the family god for the priests of the temple.
