Design and fabrication of artificial magnetic cilia for Lab-on-a-chip applications (Ph.D.)

· Conceptualized and designed the artificial cilia with application in variety of lab on a chip, devices1.

· Developed microfabrication techniques to make the cilia using PVD/CVD thin film coating.

· Characterized mechanical properties metallic thin films using stress strain analysis.

· Demonstrated active mixing and capture of salmonella bacteria for food safety applications.

· Immobilized proteins on gold cilia to demonstrate biomolecule detection.

· Initial design to implement cilia for flow regulation in ocular drainage to prevent Glaucoma.

3D Multiphysics modelling of composite thin film membrane

· Thermal and elastic modelling of multilayered membrane for micro-mirror array using COMSOL.

· Studied the effects of different materials on the curvature and stress of the membrane.

· Performed parametric study to minimize stress and prevent fracture.

Formation of multiple micro-vortices in regions of ion concentration polarization - Master’s Thesis.

· Studied the fluid flow at the intersection of Nano pores and micro channel.

· Used MicroPIV to study the formation of micro vortices and characterize the flow2.

Size based micro particle separation - eDLD (Rutgers University)

· Demonstrated the concept of Deterministic lateral displacement using electro-osmotic flows.

· Successfully showed continuous, high throughput size based particle separation in a microfluidic device3.

Motion analysis of Human body movements in Vertical jump and Long jump (IISc, Undergraduate Intern)

· Worked on the biomechanics of Human body. Performed motion analysis to study impact loading in Vertical jump, Long jump and short jump actions. Established the importance of arches in the human foot during these actions4.

Design of air inlet cowling (Design Engineer, HCL Tech)

· Used AutoCAD and GD & T to redesign the air inlet cowl in Bell Helicopters (HCL Tech, Design Engineer).
