Shalini's passion for Bharathanatyam began at the age of ten under her first guru, Smt. Radhika Kalyani of Sanchala School of Dance, Chennai. Smt. Radhika is a senior disciple of Smt. K.J. Sarasa and Smt. Chitra Visveswaran. After completing her Arangretam in 2006, she continued performing in pretegious places like Shanmugananda Hall and Music Academy.
She continued her artistic journey under Smt. Shobana Bhalchandra, a senior desciple of the Padma Bhusan Awardess, the Dhananjayans and became an ‘A’ grade artist in Doordarshan. She is currently pursuing advanced training in Layam and Nattuvangam under Dr. Guru Bharadwaj. She is also a trained Carnatic vocalist under Dr. M.S. Subhulakshmi Muthuswami. Additionally, she holds a Cambridge International Diploma in Teaching and Learning.
As the founder of Sri Natyakala School of Bharathanatyam, Shalini is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich tradition of Bharathanatyam. She regularly performs in cultural productions across Manitoba and is committed to nurturing the next generation of dancers with the same devotion and values imparted by her Gurus.
Shivani began learning Carnatic vocal music under Dr. S.R. Jayasitalakshmi at the tender age of five. Later, she continued her advanced training under Dr. Subhashini Parthasarathy.
With a strong foundation in Carnatic music, Shivani began learning Bharathanatyam at the age of seven under Smt. Shobana Bhalchandra and later received advanced training from Sri Uttiya Barua of Bharata Kalanjali. She completed her Arangetram at the prestigious Madras Music Academy in 2024. Currently, along with her mother, she is a part of the Manohar Performing Arts of Canada. She also completed all five levels of Western music theory and keyboard practicals of the Trinity College of London.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Shivani completed the International Baccalaureate diploma and graduated with distinction from Kelvin High School. She is currently entering into her second year of university and is the graphic designer Girls in Tech.
Along with her mother, she began her journey as the Artisitic Director in Sri Natyakala.
