Hydrological or Surface Water Modelling
I have extensive experience in hydrological modelling, reflecting a strong understanding of watershed processes and surface water dynamics. Using SWAT in the QGIS interface, I have simulated hydrological behaviours across diverse watersheds, including the Halda River in Bangladesh, the Elbe River in Europe, and the Toluca Valley in Mexico. My work includes analysing river discharge and water quality (sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorus loads) to identify flood peaks, low flows, and stress periods under both present and future conditions. I have modelled the impacts of soil and water conservation practices—such as terracing—on surface runoff, as well as the conjunctive use of surface and groundwater to promote sustainable water availability in water-scarce regions. Additionally, I have conducted sensitivity and uncertainty analyses and evaluated climate scenarios to inform strategies for irrigation, aquifer recharge, and soil water conservation. These modelling efforts are often complemented by extensive fieldwork and laboratory-based data collection and analysis.
Groundwater Modelling
With my experience in groundwater modelling, I can simulate the impacts of land and water management practices on aquifer dynamics and baseflow contributions under various environmental and climate conditions. Using tools like MODFLOW (within GMS), I have assessed how interventions such as terracing and infiltration ponds enhance groundwater recharge, improve baseflows, and support conjunctive water use. I can integrate surface and groundwater models by coupling SWAT-generated recharge with MODFLOW to evaluate seasonal and long-term changes in groundwater storage. This skill allows me to explore sustainable solutions for water-scarce regions, assess the resilience of groundwater systems under future climate scenarios, and support decision-making in water resource management.
Remote Sensing and GIS
I bring extensive expertise in using remote sensing and GIS technologies to analyse land-use dynamics and watershed functions. Through my research collaborations, I utilised geospatial datasets to assess environmental impacts and land cover changes, creating visualisations. My proficiency in GIS applications enables me to monitor resource distribution and perform land-use classifications effectively, establishing my capability in environmental geospatial analysis.
Water Quality Analysis, Water Resource and Watershed Management
My fieldwork and lab-based research have provided valuable insights into water quality dynamics. By analysing the relationship between land use and water quality, I have contributed to sustainable watershed management practices. My projects on flow and solute transport, along with stakeholder consultations for water resource planning, highlight my commitment to integrating scientific research with practical, community-orientated solutions.
Environmental and Social Impact Assessment
As a freelance consultant and during my internship, I worked on environmental impact assessments, mapping land-use changes, and visualising data for industrial and natural ecosystems. I focused on linking environmental policies with field operations and collaborated closely with stakeholders. These experiences allowed me to take a comprehensive approach to evaluating and mitigating environmental impacts while considering the socio-economic dynamics at play.
