What is Math Olympiad @SRE?
Math Olympiad program at SRE is an opportunity for 4th to 6th-grade students to participate in challenging math contests with students from 50 US states and 30 different countries. This contest is administered by MOEMS ( Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle School ) with the goal to reinforce analytical and critical thinking in school-age kids. We have successfully conducted this program at Stevenson Ranch with 50+ students every year over the last several years.

MOEMS conducts a total of 5 contests, from Nov. through Mar. Each contest has 5 questions to be solved in 30 min period. The SRE MO Team will facilitate the contests on the tentative contest dates below. Students will meet in the MPR after dismissal to take the test.
Note: Contest dates are governed by MOEMS, and can’t be rescheduled. Please ensure that your student is present on test dates at the SRE MPR.
Scoring: A student's score is the total score in all five contests. If time allows students will recieve their score directly after the exam.
The team score is the total of the top 10 standings of the team in all 5 contests. A team can consist maximum of 35 students.

If you would like your student to participate in the assessment, please register your student using the google form before October 11, 2024. Please note that the registration link will not be open until AFTER the parent meeting.

Math Olympiad Assessment - October 16th. Students should report to the SRE MPR at 3:00pm. The students will be dismissed at 3:45.
*Families will be notified of their team placement by Friday 10/18.
*Please note that students who do not score a minimum of a 2/5 MAY not be placed on a team*
Math Olympiad practices begin weekly on October 23rd @ 3:00pm

Practice
If your student is placed on a team, we will hold practice sessions every Wednesday to work on previous years' contest questions. The sessions will take place after school dismissal in the MPR, starting on October 23, 2024.
Please note that these practice sessions are not tutoring. They are monitored by parent volunteers, not math teachers. Students are expected to review the practice problems at home to succeed. The sessions are conducted in a collaborative learning environment with their peers.
(PLEASE CHECK the practice schedule here). Attendance on practice days is optional, but we highly recommend it to learn new strategies. The schedule is tentative, and we will notify you of any changes in advance. You can also check our announcement page for updates.
