So you would use the "Datacolor Spyder X elite" and "SpyderPrinter software" on it's own, meaning in turn here, that there is no integration of the Spyder software directly into Affinity as plugins or the like. Instead you reuse the ICC profiles created by those tools in the Affinity software then!

I need a colorimeter with correction filter for wide gamut monitor to work with SpectraViewII. There are only three I heard of. The NEC i1d2 custom mated, the spyder3, and the dtp94 in Eizo's and Quato's bundle of matched screen & colorimeter.

The regular i1d2 has NO correction filters.

The NEC custom mated i1d2 does have them.

Spyder3 is also supposed to be corrected for wide gamut monitors.

I did not buy the SpectraViewII bundle, only the software. So now I have the P241 and SpectraViewII but no instrument that does the corrections. SpectraViewII does not apply any such filters. (I found a very interesting explanation about all this going on now @LL -landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44400 )

The spyder3 express is, if it works, the cheapest instrument that I could get with correction.

Therefor I would like to now two things

 - Is the instrument itself, I don't need the software, is it the same in all spyder versions, the express, pro, elite and studio?

 - And why do some people, that know what they talk about, advice not to use a spyder3?

This is (obviously) the third generation of the Colorvision Spyder. The original Spyder was one of the first moderately priced screen profiling devices on the market, and indeed the wordspyderhas almost become a synonym for what we use to profile our screens.

The x-rite i1Display pro is a better calibrator than the Spyder3Pro, yet the Spyder3Pro could also do a decent job. I would expect improvement with the Spyder4Pro to improve it's accuracy ... so the difference between the two products should be less.

If it were me I'd buy the x-rite product, but only because I'm using their puck on my NEC system, and I get more consistent results than when I used the Spyder3Pro on a Dell eIPS panel. However, it's not like the spyder did a bad job ... it just took a bit more care, and a couple more calibrations, to get it right.

You manually change your monitors luminance by adjusting brightness yourself (backlight on a laptop), or if your software allows it, set a manual target for the cd/m^2.Bob

Can you explain how we set the caibration to a rec 709 colour space? I seem to only know how to set it to calibrate for print, which works amazing for editing photos to be printed, and allows me to see much more tonal range, but for youtube editing it gets difficult. The youtube conversion leaves my my video crushed overly dim, and have too contrasty. I have defaulted to using my imacs default rec.709 setting for video, and the spyder elite profile for lightroom or photoshop only.

I am having the exact same problem since a few days ago. When I connect a drive to the usb, the calibrated profile gets unloaded. It started that way and now it's worse because When I disconnect the drive or select "load calibration" from the spyder utility icon it only loads the profile in one or two of my 3 monitors. One gets stuck with the uncalibrated profile.

I have had the same issue in photoshop with my spyder elite. Everytime I move an object or zoom in and out it reverts to the old calibration and than changes back. But I have to move the mouse in the right spot. It's so weird. I need help
