I tried several options:

- Reboot

- Unplug the spyder 2 express

- Remove the driver from the devices management panel and reinstall it

- Run dispcalGUI as administrator

- Remove Dispcal and reinstall

"If you currently have applications other than Argyll accessing your USB connected instrument, then you will have to manually install the Argyll driver, and then switch back and forth between the Argyll and other drivers if you want to switch between applications.

To install the Argyll Driver:

(Plug in instrument)

Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager

(Locate the instrument in the device list. It may be underneath one of the top level items.)

Right click on instrument -> Update Driver Software... -> let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> Have disk... -> Browse...

-> argyll\usb folder -> select ArgyllCMS.inf -> Open -> OK -> Install this driver software anyway -> Close"

Thank you SOOOO much! I was quite frustrated at not being able to use my Spyder hardware on my new 2013 retina display MacBookPro. You saved the day. I did NOT get any error messages. The Spyder3 express software worked perfectly with my Spyder2 hardware and OS X v10.9.2. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I am having the exact same problem since a few days ago. When I connect a drive to the usb, the calibrated profile gets unloaded. It started that way and now it's worse because When I disconnect the drive or select "load calibration" from the spyder utility icon it only loads the profile in one or two of my 3 monitors. One gets stuck with the uncalibrated profile.

I have just encounted this issue. Spyder-X Pro. Created calibration. But after a mibnute it switches to pre calibrated "look" but the profile is still selected. And every now and then it will switch back and forth. I'm not seeing a pattern. Changed lighting conditions etc thinking it might be some "smart" windows settings trying to adjust things but making a mess of it as usual. The computer is only a couple of week sold and all the drivers etc are uptodate and correct. The calibration software is up to date and the OS is up to date. It's a shame since the displays default is a bit green tinted.

I have had the same issue in photoshop with my spyder elite. Everytime I move an object or zoom in and out it reverts to the old calibration and than changes back. But I have to move the mouse in the right spot. It's so weird. I need help

I've experienced this issue since mid 2017 on Windows. I've been using DisplayCal for the past 3 years and I have it set to automatically reload the calibration curves. It checks every few seconds, so there's a distracting flicker every now and then. This DisplayCal setting is still required even when an app such as Lightroom 5 is running. Yes, I've restarted my PC and scanned for viruses. Yes, I've updated my NVIDIA drivers and Windows a time or two over the past 3 years. The issue is not due to any Adobe product flaw; it's some sort of longstanding design feature of Windows which is apparently here to stay. This doesn't happen on my Macbook, for what it's worth.

I've tried uninstalling the graphics card driver and re-installing, then running the colour calibration, I've also tried disabling the driver, then running the calibration - the result looked ok, then I activated the driver and the green tint came back.

Hi Alan, yeah I'm pretty sure they were set to default, I selected in Colour Management to load the default colour profile and I also uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel graphics card driver, unless there's something else that I've missed on that front

First off check if the laptop has any ancillary functions running that relate to graphics; some companies like to bundle "helper" software in to the driver package, usually can be found down in the task bar and can be a pain in the sitting tool with overriding things, kill it and leave it dead. Also, before you start, make sure that there's nothing like auto-brightness (or these scaling warm modes that simulate daylight when it gets dark) set up on the monitor and that you have the display settings (RGB) set as flat as possible, and the brightness set to what the software recommends. Another handful of things, first is to let the display warm up for at least half an hour (even with these LCD the colour can drift a bit) before calibrating, then make sure the room where you are calibrating is neutral light (no strong light sources, daylight) and if the backlight of the screen is projected through the top case, in a similar way to how the older Macbook Pro would illuminate the logo, make sure the calibration panel isn't over that as light/colour from behind could affect the measurements.

I have looked at the folowing posts and tried changing my driver to {sql server} and have connected using ODBC links before in SAS, which is partially what my above code is based on, so don't think I need to install anything else.

You are using a provider, SQLOLEDB, but specifying it as a driver. As far as I know, neither the pyodbc nor pypyodbc modules support Window OLEDB connections. However, the adodbapi does which uses the Microsoft ADO as an underlying component.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I found a workaround to using the Spyder 3 on High Sierra and above. Not using the datacolor software but a third party software you can use the spyder 3 hardware perfectly.

dear lord, i hate this thing.

i have tried 10 (yes, 10) times to calibrate my laptop and it always comes out blue.

it did a fantastic job on my CRT at home - very happy with that - but i can't stand what it does to my laptop.

i'm hoping someone else has had this issue & knows of a quick fix.

i was better off un-calibrated with the generic profile that windows gave it.

and to really piss me off, if i unload the spyder profile and put the generic profile back... the damn software reloads the spyder profile on me.

any help or suggestions?

I just got my spyder3express and am having similar problems with my laptop. My tower on the other hand ends up with a great looking screen.

I get an ugly brown tinge to my laptop screen though. I think it has something to do with the fact that I can't set the laptop to 6500K color temp. But I can't seem to find another way around this issue at this time.

If anyone comes up with anything please let me know.

I had a net book that would go ugly whenever I calibrated the dang thing. Laptop, desktop fine, netbook fubar. Then I changed the white point the spyder software suggests (can't remember what I ended up with, but it was something like they suggested 6000k and I went with under 5000k in the end.) Compard it with the other two puters till it was close, now everything is fine. Although I must admit I never adjust color on the netbook.

i was having the exact same problem and I was so irritated because the screen was way too blue! I knew it could not be normal... so I kept searching and on my last try (before I threw out the program) was to:

open the spyder express program > on top near FILE click on GO> Preferences> Put a check mark on LCD Native

I did the calibration again and my screen looks very similar to what I originally started off with (uncalibrated) but a little darker and slightly adjusted.

Please let me know if this works for you :)

@alfredk just use the test in my link with your perfectly calibrated laptop monitor and then tell us if you can find a viewing angle that renders that text invisible from side to side/top 2 bottom [as it is on any factory calibrated ips monitor]...

even with a perfect viewing angle you are still sitting at 0 degrees to the center of the image and 20-45 degrees to the sides..

what good does correcting a 2-3% gamma/color shift do if the shift between the center and the sides of the image is at least 10-20% [unless you are sitting 15 feet away from the laptop]? corrected or not, you shouldn't be editing pictures on laptop monitors.

[you can find a 22" IPS monitor for the price of the spyder 3 elite]

Edit: $2000 dell laptop vs 22" $250 Dell IPS monitor

I'm not talking about the extreme-red-turns-blue viewing angle in the first image

this is what I'm talking about: 10-30% color shift even when viewed from a perfect angle.. which makes spending money on an external monitor a better option than spending it on laptop calibration tools.

If this sounds elementary, I apologize in advance, but check these things.

1. Delete "Adobe Gamma" from the startup menu if it is still there.

2. Not sure about Spyder 3 express, but make sure you have "LCD" monitor checked and not "CRT"

3. Make sure you have the attachment on the Spyder for calibrating LCDs (not the suction cups).

4. Make sure you are setting the software to the target Gamma and Temperature that you want. ( My lab wants me to shoot for 1.8 Gamma at 5000 K Temperature in order to match their settings).

I use a Spyder2 Pro. I don't know if all these options are available on the Spyder3 Express. If not, I apologize.
