Group Counseling Information
At our school, we provide many opportunities for students to learn, grow, and feel supported. One of these opportunities is through small group counseling, led by the school counselor. Small groups are a safe and supportive way for students to connect with peers, practice new skills, and build confidence at school.
What is a small group?
A small group usually has 4–8 students.
We meet once a week for about 30 minutes, for about 8 weeks.
Groups are positive, skill-based, and fun!
Why small groups?
All students can benefit from extra support in different areas at different times. Just like learning math or reading, learning social, emotional, and study skills helps students be successful in school and in life.
How does it work?
Groups take place during the school day at a time that minimizes missed instruction.
Students may share ideas and experiences in a supportive setting.
Confidentiality is respected, and group activities are designed to be safe and encouraging.
A few benefits of group participation:
✔ Learn strategies that support success in school & improve attendance
✔ Build healthy friendships, teamwork and positive connections
✔ Gain confidence, motivation, manage feelings and resilience
✔ Practice problem-solving, organization, and self-management skills
Per our School Board-approved Student Handbook, our comprehensive School Counseling Program includes classroom lessons and school counseling group sessions for all students.
