OVERVIEW
The Sustainable Pavements Technical Working Group (SPTWG) was established to integrate stakeholder technical feedback and input into the FHWA's pavement sustainability efforts. SPTWG serves as a forum for information sharing and exchange.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the FHWA Sustainable Pavements Program is to increase the body of knowledge regarding sustainability aspects of asphalt and concrete materials in pavement design, construction, and maintenance and to increase the use of sustainable technologies and practices related to pavements.
PURPOSE
The SPTWG will provide technical feedback to FHWA staff regarding sustainability issues as it relates to the pavement life cycle.
The SPTWG is not an advisory committee and is not established under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). The FHWA is soliciting facts and information and not consensus advice from the SPTWG. The SPTWG will not direct the work of the FHWA Sustainable Pavements Program as only the Program Manager is responsible for the technical administration of the Sustainable Pavements Program.

SPTWG MEETING STRUCTURE
Spring meetings are generally hosted as hybrid conferences (i.e., presentations followed by discussion sessions). These meetings provide an opportunity for FWHA and SPTWG members and friends to share updates on their latest work with the group. These meetings are open to the public, generally allowing for a minimum of 80 in-person participants, with virtual participation available to all other eligible SPTWG members and friends.
Fall meetings are hosted as discussion-focused working groups (i.e., in-depth conversations related to a specific topic). These meetings provide an opportunity for FHWA to receive feedback from SPTWG members and friends. These meetings are invitation-only, allowing for a maximum of 60 in-person participants. Availability to attend these meetings is limited to promote deeper discussion amongst attendees. Attendance is prioritized for SPTWG members, guest speakers, and then, if space allows, SPTWG friends.
The Sustainable Pavements Program (SPP) stakeholder network features representatives from industry, NGOs, academia, FHWA programs, Federal agencies, and more.
