First and foremost, I want to wish my current CE III CI (Clinical Instructor) a happy birthday! Additionally, I would like to send a shout out to my former CE II CI who opened my eyes to Gary Vaynerchuk. You can thank these individuals for the reason behind creating this website, writing these blog posts, re-incarnating my Twitter account, and connecting all the social media webs.
Gary Vaynerchuk lays out in the book, Crush it! Why Now is the Time to Cash in on Your Passion, exactly what to do to make the world listen to what you have to offer, get your name out, and advance your business goals:
1. Buy your website name from GoDaddy.com - either .com or .tv .....still working on coming up with a creative name, this is my temporary home now.
2. Create a WordPress or Tumblr account (I do have a very ancient Tumblr account: http://joie-de-vie.tumblr.com/) Ooops on not selecting WordPress! Should have read book a few months before making this site...
3. Hire a web designer. Hopefully that will take place when there is a salary to make it a reality.
4. To create video blogs, buy a cheap $150 Flip Cam with HD that can be utilized at any time. Recall, this book was written in 2009; the iPhone will likely do the trick!
5. Create a Facebook fan page.
6. Open a Twitter account with your domain name.
7. If....you are providing ample amounts of video, then sign up for TubeMogul (it distributes your video blogs to countless video sites for FREE)....you are writing a blog, then create a Hootsuite (then Ping.fm) account (the fast track way to post a short message to any of 30+ social networking sites).
8. Explode the internet with your content!
9. Share your content on your platforms you created - HootSuite, TubeMogul, or both.
10. Jump onto Search.Twitter and search terms relevant to you and your content.
11. Go onto Blogsearch.Google.com and search keywords that
Repeat Steps 5, 8-12 until the cows come home. The next step is monetizing your business. Fast forward to Chapter 11 of the book! The following chapter really captivates me as a student PT because he also goes into the realities that 1) you will sometimes just have to roll with it, 2) understand that adaptation is a likely part of the journey, and 3) identify a trend that is to come and acting on it to be ready once it becomes a reality. He perfectly worded it by saying, "Successful entrepreneurs are like good chess players; they can imagine the various possibilities ahead and how each one will trigger their next move."
He also emphasized the importance of your legacy left behind - for your business and your personal name. I cannot count the number of times he puts his email in this one book alone. In Chapter 13, he goes into detail on why he encourages all his fans to email him & even promises to respond (although he is gaining huge popularity and may delay in a response by a few months). He even shares an incredible story about his level of customer service when he used to be in retail. Three days before Christmas, a customer had not received her case of White Zinfandel and FedEx already warned her that she would not be receiving her wine in time for the holiday celebrations. When Gary heard about the issue, he grabbed a case of White Zinfandel, loaded it into his car, and drove 3 hours in wintery New York conditions to the lady's house. That is what is engrained in Gary's DNA, and he could not have it any other way!
By the way, Gary Vee predicted that by the time I read this book, Twitter would be a main verb...and it certainly has landed to be just that! He recommended it then and recommends it now that you be part of the buzz to have a closer relationship with your future (and current) customers.
