Chronology

Property is on a hill in a desert climate, so we are xeriscaping.

• Failed attempts from previous owners to grow grass 

• Erosion of sand by green electrical box (bottom left)

Somewhat permeable landscape tarp:

• Prevented weeds from growing

• Caused some erosion of sand that can be seen above the green electrical box

• Picked up some flagstone and laid them approximately in the path we want

• Set up delivery space for rocks

• Sorted rocks

• Moved medium-sized rocks up to workspace

• Cleaned up eroded sand by electrical box

• Placed rocks in crevices in front walls (not pictured)

• Mapped terraces

• Moved half of rocks up to garden space

• Started leveling and digging trenches for terracing

• Mapped new garden space mapped

• Mapped new *new* garden space

• Dug trenches for 2nd and 3rd terraces

• Placed landscape ties on left and front of garden space

• Moved and placed biggest rocks as retention by elm tree

Day Six

Not interrupted by snow! 

• Removed remaining rocks from sidewalk below

• Moved and placed next-biggest rocks on Neighbor's hillside retention

• Mapped out new terracing

• Built new terracing

• Finished leveling

• Built back wall of garden (rocks)

• Laid flagstone on garden path

• Placed edging

• Finished the Neighbor Rock Garden

• Built "Fairy Garden"

• Removed about 20 homer buckets of soil into the garden

• Leveled garden soil and built up for center flagstone

• Installed yard cloth on upper terrace, gopher wire

• Laid walkway bricks closest to house

• Mulch delivered

• Placed mulch in main (top) terrace and along right and back of garden

• Removed pink bricks

• Leveled soil around sidewalk

• Picked up Rio concrete pavers from a wild goose hunt

• Placed mulch the rest of the way around the back of the garden (under the slate)

• Moved the rest of the mulch up from the street

• Finished mulch

• Finished installing pavers

• Finished installing slate

• Ready for spring!
