Welcome to the Springfield Police Department, where community safety is our top priority. As a nationally accredited law enforcement agency, the Springfield Police Department comprises 25 sworn police officers and 5 civilian staff members. Our jurisdiction covers approximately 2 square miles, serving a diverse population of over 200 residents.
FIELD OPERATIONS BUREAU
Patrol Bureau
The Springfield Police Department's Patrol Division consists of two patrol squads that are responsible for the prevention and suppression of crime. This division consists of sworn officers who answer calls for service through the Liberty County Emergency Center (911). They also conduct self-initiated activity.
The responsibilities of the Patrol Division include:
Preservation of public peace, protection of life and property, and crime prevention.
Preliminary investigation of all crimes.
Continuing criminal investigations in other specified crimes.
Enforcement of laws and investigation of incidents relating to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, including motor vehicle collision investigation and traffic enforcement activities.
Interacting with the residential and business communities.
K9 UNIT (PB)
The Springfield Police Department K9 Unit is a team of highly trained handlers and their K9 partners.
Our K9 officers patrol Springfield in specially marked police vehicles. Along with their general patrol duties, our K-9 teams are trained to provide building searches; evidence and suspect searches; suspect tracking; and narcotics detection. K-9 Officers also serve a community education and outreach role by making public appearances with community groups.

BIKE UNIT (PB)
The Springfield police department bike unit is a specialized division in The PB that operates in downtown springfield. They wear helmets and patrol on bikes, basically like faster foot patrol officers but on bikes.
PARK AND TRAIL (PB)
Park and trail officers wear a specialized uniform and patrol in ATVs at springlake, and give NPS mutual aid here and there.
GANG UNIT
The Gang Unit of the SPD reacts to high-threat crisis events. At times they may secure the perimeter, engage in dangerous firefights with large numbers of enemies or conduct a fast raid on a location. Excellent combat capabilities and discipline are required to be part to the GU. You can only join GU after undergoing a rigorous tryout.
FIELD MANAGEMENT BUREAU
FIELD TRAINING UNIT
FTU contains Field Training Officers (FTOs) who train new cadets into becoming Probationary Officers and provide them with information and guidance needed to become a member. This division also contains clerical staff, developers, and media designers.
CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT
The CIU are detectives selected from the most loyal, hardworking, and trustworthy officers responsible for handling any misconduct within the department and delivering the appropriate disciplinary actions as well as investigating personal. This involves criminal inactivity such as hostile operations, internal affairs and criminal activity. CIU entrance requires an application followed by a probationary period.
