The Los Altos Art Docents are a dedicated group of trained volunteers, who teach art in a manner which expands and motivates the development of creativity and curiosity in the children of the Los Altos School District. We are currently navigating the year 2020 in signature Art Docent style; with an abundance of creativity, flexibility, vision, and a steadfast commitment to bringing the arts to life for all of the elementary school students of Los Altos. During this year of distance learning, the docents will offer:
• New non-grade specific weekly virtual art lessons to supplement our current grade-specific lessons
• A commemorative 50th Anniversary sketchbook for every student in the district
• A virtual read aloud art library
• Virtual office hours for all students
• A virtual art show for each school
Interested in becoming a docent? No experience with teaching? No artistic talent? No problem – as soon as it is safe to do so, we will train you! Once trained, we ask our volunteers to commit to teach once a week in the classroom during the school year. Learn more about the Docent Training Program. If you don't have time to volunteer as an Art Docent, volunteer to help in your child's classroom when there is an Art Docent lesson being taught. All help is appreciated.
For more information, contact Art Docent Coordinator Kimberly Dickerson at (650) 947-1195.

Living Classroom is an LASD program which inspires children to learn and value our natural world through garden-based environmental education. Our hands-on lessons encompass science, math, social studies, environmental stewardship, healthy eating and sources of food. Although our lessons will be virtual this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we still need volunteers to help maintain both our edible and native plant gardens. You can adopt a garden bed as a family or simply stop by and pull weeds on a regular basis. There may also be opportunities to help prep materials for at home lessons or to get involved with our virtual programming. If you want to get involved or just have questions, please email livingclassroom@lasdschools.org.
