This Privacy Policy describes how SprechCard (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) handles information when you use our mobile application for learning German grammar and speaking.
SprechCard is a learning app that helps you practice German by speaking full sentences. We are committed to keeping your data minimal and transparent. This policy explains what data the app uses, where it is stored, and how it is used.
The following data is stored only on your device and is not sent to our servers:
Learning progress
Which flashcard items you have completed per topic (e.g. which sentences you have said correctly). This is used to show your progress and to sort cards (e.g. completed last).
App preferences
For example, whether you have seen the introductory onboarding screens, so we do not show them again.
This data is stored using your device’s local storage (e.g. AsyncStorage). We do not collect or store this data on our own servers.
The app uses the microphone only when you are on the practice (flashcard) screen and when the microphone is turned on.
Voice is used only for speech recognition so the app can check whether you said the German sentence correctly.
On Android, we request the Record Audio permission for this purpose. On iOS, the system will prompt for microphone access when needed.
Speech recognition is provided by the device’s built‑in services (e.g. Apple’s or Google’s). We do not send your voice to our own servers. How Apple or Google process voice is governed by their respective privacy policies.
We do not record, store, or upload your voice beyond what is needed for real‑time recognition on your device.
When the app is used in release (non‑development) mode, we use Sentry to help us fix crashes and improve stability. Sentry may receive:
Crash reports and stack traces
Device and OS information (e.g. model, OS version)
App version and similar technical data
Sentry is disabled in development builds. We do not use Sentry to collect your learning progress, voice, or any content you speak. For more on Sentry’s practices, see Sentry’s Privacy Policy.
We do not require an account or sign‑in to use the app.
We do not sell your data to third parties.
We do not use your voice or progress data for advertising or marketing.
We do not send your spoken sentences or learning history to our servers.
On your device: Progress and preferences stay on your device until you uninstall the app or clear the app’s data.
Sentry: Crash and related technical data are retained according to Sentry’s retention policy and our configuration. You can contact us if you want to know more about retention or deletion of Sentry data related to your use.
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data through the app, please contact us and we will work to delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
