Hey! My name is Ava Pounder and I am an aspiring journalist/ filmmaker, as well as a proud Girl Scout of course! My dream is to work in conservation journalism, and film wildlife documentaries. Read more about this project below.
Once in high school, girl scouts have the opportunity to complete the Gold Award. For those who do not know, the Gold Award is essentially a very involved and sustainable service project. Girls in my troop set up free dance classes, made personalized dolls for young refugees and so much more. When it came time for mine, I knew right away it had to be something to help the environment. For as long as I can remember, I have loved the ocean and all of its life. With the help and guidance from my amazing troop leader, Michelle Niksa, I came up with an idea the combine both of my passions. So, after many hours of conversation, I decided on the environmental science curriculum for Elementary aged children. I first spent months coming up with topics, craft ideas, and more. Next, throughout a very hectic summer, I and many of my fellow journalism friends, filmed and edited these videos. This project has been such a big part of my life, and it means so much to me, so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it! Any Questions don't hesitate to reach out!
