SprayMap is a tool for irrigation professionals to map, design and inspect sprinkler systems. This policy explains what data the apps handle, where that data goes, and the choices you have. It covers the Android phone/tablet app, the iPhone/iPad app, the Meta Quest app and the SprayMap Tracer Garmin watch app. Where they differ, this policy says so.
Summary
• SprayMap has no user accounts, no login, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. It contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.
• Everything you enter (properties, customers, zones, heads, pipes, pins, photos, inspections) is stored only on your device (your phone, tablet, iPhone, iPad or Meta Quest headset), in a database (encrypted on Android and Meta Quest). The SprayMap Tracer watch app keeps only your property list and its last position on the watch.
• The developer, Levi Beaird, runs no server and does not receive your data. Garmin does not receive your SprayMap data either. Apple does not receive your SprayMap data, except as described below for Apple Maps and App Store purchases. Nothing is sold or shared for advertising.
• Some features send map tile requests, a location, or an address search to a map, weather, soil or geocoding service so the feature can work. Every such service is listed below.
Data stored on your device
• Property and customer details you type (names, addresses, phone numbers, notes) – why: Core function: organising your jobs; where: On the device only
• Map and design data you create (boundaries, zones, heads, nozzles, pipes, wires, valves, pins, issues, inspections) – why: Core function; where: On the device only
• Photos you take or choose in the app (Android and iPhone/iPad apps) – why: Attach photos to heads, pins and issues; where: App-private storage on the device
• GPS positions you record (head locations, traced pipe/wire lines, tagged equipment and issues), from the phone/tablet's location, an external GNSS receiver (Android only), or the SprayMap Tracer Garmin watch app. The Quest app records none – why: Mapping equipment where it is; where: On the phone/tablet (Android, iPhone or iPad) only. The watch sends its positions live to the SprayMap app on your phone and keeps only the last position
• Settings and branding (company name, logo, colours) – why: Personalise reports; where: On the device only
• Crash reports (Android) – why: Help fix problems; where: Saved on the device. They only leave it if you choose to share one
• SprayMap Pro purchase status (iPhone/iPad) – why: Unlock Pro features; where: Checked on the device with Apple's App Store (see below)
The database is encrypted with SQLCipher (AES-256). The key is protected by the Android Keystore of your device. App data is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer. To move or back up your work, use a property's Share property file (.spraymap).
iPhone/iPad app: the database and photos are stored in the app's private storage on the device. The database is not yet encrypted by SprayMap; it is protected by iOS's own app sandbox and device security. Like other app data, it can be included in your own iCloud or computer backup of the device if you have that turned on; the developer has no access to those backups.
Data sent off the device
These requests are sent only so a feature can work. SprayMap does not add any identifier of yours to them. All connections use HTTPS (unencrypted traffic is disabled). "App" says which apps use each service: "Both" means the Android phone/tablet app and the Meta Quest app.
• Mapbox (api.mapbox.com) satellite imagery – what it receives: Map tile requests: the area and zoom level you are viewing, plus the app's Mapbox access token (it identifies the app, not you); when: Satellite view on the built-in map (the main satellite view on Meta Quest); app: Both. Not used on iPhone/iPad
• Esri World Imagery (Esri ArcGIS Location Platform, ibasemaps-api.arcgis.com; developer test builds without a key use server.arcgisonline.com) – what it receives: Map tile requests (area and zoom) and the app's ArcGIS API key; no personal data; when: Satellite view on the built-in map, fallback when Mapbox imagery isn't available, and map images in PDF reports; app: Both. iPhone/iPad: used only for the satellite map images in PDF reports (the on-screen map is Apple's)
• OpenStreetMap tiles (tile.openstreetmap.org) – what it receives: Map tile requests (area and zoom); when: Street view on the built-in map; app: Both. Not used on iPhone/iPad
• Google Maps SDK for Android (Google LLC) – what it receives: Map tile requests for the area you view. Google's SDK also collects device/SDK metadata, IP address, crash data and a pseudonymous SDK identifier (Google's disclosure (https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/android-sdk/play-data-disclosure)); when: When the Google map is shown; app: Android phone/tablet only. Not used on iPhone/iPad
• Android Geocoder (provided by the device, for example Google Play services) – what it receives: The address you search, or a property's coordinates (to show the city); when: Address search, and water-usage settings. Used only if the device provides a geocoder; app: Both, where available. Not used on iPhone/iPad (see Apple geocoder below)
• OpenStreetMap Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) and Photon (photon.komoot.io, by komoot) – what it receives: The address text you search; when: Address search, when the device geocoder finds nothing or isn't available; app: Both, and iPhone/iPad. On iPhone/iPad, Nominatim also receives a property's coordinates to look up the city name in water-usage settings
• Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com, archive-api.open-meteo.com) – what it receives: The coordinates of the property's controller pin, or of the property centre; when: When you open the watering schedule (weather, rainfall and evapotranspiration); app: Both, and iPhone/iPad
• USDA NRCS Soil Data Access (sdmdataaccess.sc.egov.usda.gov) and ISRIC SoilGrids (rest.isric.org) – what it receives: The property's coordinates; when: Soil lookup on the watering screen; app: Both, and iPhone/iPad
• Apple Maps / MapKit (Apple Inc.) – what it receives: Map requests for the area you view (standard and satellite map); when: The on-screen map; app: iPhone/iPad only (Apple's privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/)
• Apple geocoder (CLGeocoder, Apple Inc.) – what it receives: The address text you search; when: Address search (first choice; OpenStreetMap Nominatim and Photon are used if it finds nothing); app: iPhone/iPad only
• Apple App Store (StoreKit, Apple Inc.) – what it receives: The SprayMap Pro in-app purchase, restore and entitlement check, handled by Apple with your Apple Account; when: Showing the Pro price, buying or restoring SprayMap Pro, and checking Pro status at launch; app: iPhone/iPad only. Payment is processed by Apple. The developer does not receive your payment details, Apple Account or any personal data from Apple through the app
Like any internet request, these providers receive your device's IP address. Their own privacy policies apply.
Links you choose to open. Map attribution and feedback links (Mapbox, OpenStreetMap, Maxar, Esri) open in your web browser only when you tap them. The Mapbox "Improve this map" link includes the map position you were viewing.
Location
Phone/tablet app: SprayMap asks for location permission (precise and approximate) to place heads and pins at your position, trace pipe and wire runs while you walk, centre the map, and sort properties by "Nearest to me". While a trace is running, a notification is shown and location is used through a foreground service. SprayMap does not use background location when you are not tracing. Your positions are stored on the device and leave it only as described in the table above.
SprayMap Tracer (Garmin watch app): uses the watch's GPS only while the watch app is open, and sends the positions live to the SprayMap phone app over Bluetooth (see below).
iPhone/iPad app: SprayMap asks for location permission "While Using the App" to place heads, pins and issues at your position, centre the map, and use the compass to aim heads. If you start Trace with GPS while SprayMap is on screen, recording continues when the screen locks or you switch apps, and iOS shows its location indicator; it stops when you stop the trace. SprayMap does not request "Always" location permission. Your positions are stored on the device and leave it only as described in the table above.
Meta Quest app: does not request or use device location, GPS or Bluetooth. You place items on the map yourself.
Bluetooth, watch and notifications (Android and iPhone/iPad apps)
• Android: Bluetooth is used only to connect to an external GNSS/GPS receiver that you choose. Receiver data stays on the device.
• iPhone/iPad: Bluetooth is used only for the Garmin watch link (Garmin's Connect IQ SDK). Choosing your watch opens the Garmin Connect app, which returns you to SprayMap. No external GNSS receiver is supported on iPhone/iPad.
• SprayMap Tracer (Garmin watch app): while the watch app is open, it reads the watch's GPS to record the lines you trace and the equipment and issues you tag, and sends them over Bluetooth, through the Garmin Connect app, to the SprayMap app on your own phone. It stores only your property list and the last position on the watch. It does not contact any other server. Data you create in SprayMap or SprayMap Tracer goes to the SprayMap app, not to Garmin, and Garmin has no responsibility or liability for that data. Garmin's own terms and privacy policy apply to the Garmin Connect app itself.
• Notifications are used for inspection reminders that you set up, and (Android) while a GPS trace is running. On iPhone/iPad, reminders are local notifications scheduled on the device; you are asked for permission only when you first set one up.
Camera, photos and Apple Pencil (iPhone/iPad app)
• Camera: used only when you tap Take photo to photograph heads, valves and problems.
• Photo library: used only when you choose a photo to attach, or pick a company logo. Only the photo you pick is copied into the app.
• Apple Pencil: taps, squeezes and pencil touches on the map are used only on the device to draw and place items. Nothing is sent anywhere.
The Meta Quest app has no camera, Bluetooth, notification or location permissions and does not use Google Play services.
Sharing you start yourself
When you export a PDF report, CSV/JSON, controller card, property file or crash report, SprayMap opens the system share sheet (on iPhone/iPad, the iOS share sheet). On iPhone/iPad you can also import a .spraymap property file or backup through Files or the share sheet; the file is read on the device. The file goes only to the app or person you pick.
Children
SprayMap is a professional tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect data from children.
Data retention and deletion
All data lives on your device until you delete it. To clear the watch, uninstall SprayMap Tracer from it. You can delete properties in the app, clear the app's storage in the device settings, or uninstall the app (on iPhone/iPad, delete the app). On Meta Quest, uninstalling the app (or clearing its storage) does the same. Either way, this removes the database, photos and (Android) the encryption key. Copies in your own iCloud or computer backups are controlled by you. Because the developer holds no copy of your data, there is nothing to request from the developer. Questions and deletion requests are still welcome at the contact address.
Security
• Encrypted database on Android and Meta Quest (SQLCipher, key in Android Keystore). On iPhone/iPad the database is protected by the iOS app sandbox and device security
• HTTPS only: cleartext traffic is disabled
• No cloud backup of app data on Android and Meta Quest. On iPhone/iPad, app data follows your own iCloud/device backup settings
• Minimal permissions: no contacts, storage or background-location permission (iPhone/iPad: location "While Using the App" only, plus camera, photo library, Bluetooth for the Garmin watch, and notifications when you set reminders). The Quest app also has no location, camera, Bluetooth or notification permission
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
