I can't get the EQ to work on my device, how come?
Most users and devices get it to work after some effort, if not immediately. See the in-app instructions for a step-by-step guide. What music app did you try together with? Did you allow the notification permission? Usually the important thing is to have SpotEQ31 running/enabled before even open the music player. Try it immediately after a device reboot.
I can get some music players to work but not this particular one, why?
The compatibility of music players will vary depending on how it's developer handled audio. Some apps (like Spotify) connects fine and you can see it in the list of connected apps in SpotEQ31 user interface. Some unfortunately breaks the connection every track and makes SpotEQ31 reconnect. In general, music apps perform better than games. See https://sites.google.com/view/spoteq-musicapps/tested-apps for some compatibility notes.
I can't see the dB values when adjusting bands, how to make them visible?
The dB values will show when you purchase either Basic or the Subscription. Also you need to set the "Size" of the EQ to Small or greater, since that makes the EQ scrollable and each band making room for the dB value. If you can't see the dB values even after purchase and setting the size, please try a full app restart.
Why do you need the Notification permission?
This permission allows SpotEQ31 to put a notification in the top system bar, indicating that it's running in the background. Without it, the Android OS will clear system resources and shut down the app more often and aggressively. To further prevent unwanted app close you can go into the Android settings for the app and set "unrestricted" battery use, that will increase the chance of this app to keep running properly.
Why do you need the Microphone (Record Audio) permission?
This permission is a broad audio permission that needs to be granted to be able to use the visualizer and to detect music apps playing ("Scan for audio" in Settings). Here you can read the technical documentation explaining the need: https://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/audiofx/Visualizer . However, no audio is recorded, stored or uploaded from your device.
The app works well at first but seems to disconnect when tracks change or when being in the background, why?
This app is doing work in the background to sync with your music player. Some manufacturers are limiting what apps can do after a while, to save battery. This unfortunately requires you to manually go to the system settings and remove things like "Battery optimization", "App sleep" or similar for SpotEQ31. For instance "unrestricted" battery use is most recommended for this app to keep working in the background. The specific settings differ from device to device, please have a look here for advice on your manufacturer: https://dontkillmyapp.com/
Why is there so few bands in the low end compared to middle and highs? And why does my custom EQ not work for all low end bands?
The reason for this is a limitation in the Android OS making too many bands in the low end not work for streaming sound at the time. This is very unfortunate and we hope it will be fixed in an upcoming OS release. Since you can set your own frequencies in the custom EQ, you can know for sure when it's working on your device. If so, please let us know!
