Spotafilm Privacy Policy

Spotafilm ("we", "us") is an iPhone app that identifies movies and TV series. This policy explains what information the app uses, why, and who it is shared with. Questions? Email appsbyhb@gmail.com.
The short version
Spotafilm is free and has no accounts. It never asks for your name, email or location. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps. Nothing leaves your iPhone unless you choose to spot a picture, describe a title, ask a question or look something up.
What you choose to send, and who it goes to
Screenshots and camera photos. When you Spot a screenshot or scan a screen with your camera, the picture is sent to our server. To identify it, our server sends it to an image search service, which looks for matching pictures online, and to a third-party AI service, which works out the title. Pictures are deleted from our server automatically within 10 minutes. The image search service may keep a record of the search for a short time under its own privacy policy.
Text you type. When you use Describe It or Ask AI, your text goes through our server to a third-party AI service to find a match or answer your question.
Movie lookups. Titles you search for, and the movies, series and actors you open, are looked up in a movie and TV database. That's where posters, cast, ratings and where-to-watch information come from.
This content is used only to answer your request. It isn't linked to your identity, and it's never used for advertising.
Trailers and links
Trailers play in an embedded video player from a third-party video service. When you play one, that service may collect information under its own privacy policy. Streaming service logos and the Letterboxd icon open those services' own websites or apps, which have their own privacy policies.
What stays on your iPhone
Your Recents and Watchlist are stored only on your iPhone. We can't see them, and deleting the app deletes them.
Camera and photo access
Spotafilm asks for camera access only when you choose Scan with Camera. It asks for photo library access only to spot the screenshots you pick, or, if you set up the Action Button or Back Tap shortcut, your most recent screenshot. You can turn either permission off anytime in your iPhone's Settings app.
Service providers
Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy, and only to provide its service to us:
A cloud hosting provider, which runs our server
An image search service, which identifies pictures
A third-party AI service, which identifies titles and powers Describe It and Ask AI
A movie and TV database, for posters, cast, ratings and where to watch
A video service, which plays trailers
A backup image host, used only if our own server can't host a picture, which deletes pictures automatically after 10 minutes
Past subscriptions
Spotafilm used to offer a Pro subscription and is now completely free. Subscriptions were handled entirely by Apple, and we never saw your payment details. If you still have one, you can cancel it on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
No tracking or advertising
Spotafilm has no ads and no third-party analytics or advertising trackers. It doesn't track you across other apps or websites.
Children
Spotafilm isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
Because Spotafilm has no accounts, we don't keep profiles about you. To delete everything the app stores, delete it from your iPhone. For any privacy question or request, email appsbyhb@gmail.com.
