The Centre for Sport Capacity is a hub for research, student experiential education, and practical support to sport organizations in the Niagara Region, across Canada, and abroad. The CSC has developed e-learning modules for sport professionals and volunteers across the world.
With the COVID-19 crisis shining a spotlight on online curriculum development in Ontario, it is now more important than ever to create contemporary online resources for secondary students that are now participating in hybrid models of learning. Creating activities that are informative, interesting, and fun to complete is essential for knowledge retention as well as overall satisfaction with the learning experience. This is why a group of Brock University teaching candidates have combined their sport expertise and knowledge of the Ontario secondary curriculum, to create free, open-access units of study for online teaching, centred around sport. These e-learning resources work to integrate sport across various curriculum areas and fit both grades 9-10 and 11-12 curriculum.
This Brock CSC E-learning Module has been designed to facilitate an inquiry-based approach to online learning to help support students as active members of their educational journey.
Throughout the modules, you will have the opportunity to engage in optional activities, independent research, and essentially tailor the lessons based on interest. As you work your way through any part of a lesson, if you find an area that you want to explore more thoroughly, conduct your own inquiry-based learning! Our lessons have been created as a guideline; you can choose to follow them in detail or use them as a starting point.
If you have been assigned a lesson (or multiple) from your in-class teacher, please be sure to follow their instructions and complete any assessments/evaluations as assigned.
As you explore the lessons, please refer to the Learning Goals (at the beginning) and Success Criteria (at the end) as a way to understand where your learning should be going, and assess your learning when you finish.
Last but certainly not least - enjoy the learning that will take place from this resource. Our team developed this resource because we have a passion for both sport and education, and we hope your learning is enhanced because of this!
This Brock CSC E-Learning module can be used by teachers to provide online lessons for their students. Each lesson has been designed with certain curriculum expectations and courses in mind.
