Thank You For a Great First Meeting!
January 13, 2026
Our first ever Scrabble Club meeting was a success, with 13 attendees spanning a wide range of experience levels, from players learning Scrabble for the very first time to seasoned competitors. Thanks to the mix of skill levels, we were able to create fair, competitive matchups for everyone, and the games were lively throughout the day.
A special congratulations goes to Stephen, who took home the prize for Best New Year–Themed Word of the Day with SEQUIN, scoring an impressive 78 points.
We also want to thank everyone who shared feedback. Based on your responses, we’re excited to announce a few updates:
Location: South Hill Library – Events Room (3324 S Perry St)
Schedule: Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month (Noon-4PM)
This new cadence will begin with our next meeting on February 22, 2026.
We’re always happy to welcome new players, so if you have a friend who’s curious about Scrabble, whether they’re a beginner or a longtime word nerd, please bring them along! If you have any questions or additional feedback, feel free to message the club director here.
Thanks again to everyone who came out and helped make our first meeting such a great start. We can’t wait to see you at the next one!
Happy New Year
January 1, 2026
Happy New Year, and welcome to the Spokane Scrabble Club. If you’ve recently discovered us through one of our flyers around town, we’re glad you found your way here.
I’ve received a few questions about what to expect in terms of competition level, so I wanted to take a moment to clarify. The club is intended to be welcoming to a variety of skill levels, from kitchen table players to those with tournament experience. We will try to match players to make for the best games. The goal is to provide a consistent, organized environment where everyone can enjoy high-quality games and improve at their own pace.
To make that possible, we’ll be playing with a uniform set of rules. Games will use the NWL2023 lexicon, standard challenge rules, and will be played using a clock. These standards help keep games consistent, timely, and comparable from one match to the next, regardless of experience level. It is recommended to read the Top Ten Things To Know List on the Scrabble Resources page. If you want to get used to playing with a clock, there is mobile app ULU with a built in Scrabble clock.
For those interested in studying or improving between meetings, some commonly used Scrabble tools include Zyzzyva (also available in Mobile App form), Aerolith, and Woogles. These are widely used by competitive players for word study and practice. While there’s no requirement to use any study tools, they’re great resources if you’re curious about expanding your word knowledge or learning club-style play.
We’re excited to kick off the new year and start building a regular Scrabble community here in Spokane. Whether you’re coming to compete, learn, or just enjoy well-played games, we hope to see you across the board soon.
