Splitgate's first season officially begins today, January 27, as developer 1047 Games has revealed more of what players can expect in the latest update for the Halo-meets-Portal shooter. The biggest addition is a map maker for both PC and console that can be used in custom matches. Interestingly, these custom maps can also be co-designed with up to eight players, although there are limitations.

1047 Games stressed that for now the only way to share these maps is through hosting a custom lobby, but this mode will be further developed as the game continues to evolve. Capture the Flag and Evolution modes are also being added, with the CTF option featuring a stipulation that the flagbearer in each round cannot portal to an easy victory.

Splitgate is free-to-play and has had over 15m downloads, with a tonne of content already available. The introduction of custom matches will add plenty of longevity before the game's true launch next year.

I've been getting into building (really bad) custom maps but it is really boring when I do it by myself. I try and set up a multiplayer lobby but whenever I press the multiplayer checkbox nothing happens. Any help is appreciated.

GIGA Maze aka actually hell This was a giant disjointed maze from border to border with sparse weapon spawns and fun challenges for the better weapons I was so close everything may be lost and I'm most likely gonna stop making maps for a week or more Ps don't ask about online saves I accidentally rewrote my save with an old one thinking it was only player data like settings.

The preview event kicked off with Proulx welcoming new art directors and other talents for Splitgate, with some of them coming from prestigious titles like Valorant, Destiny, and Halo. Two of the art directors, according to Proulx, were given one map each, and were told to make the best map possible with the team with no rush at all needed. You can check out one of the maps below called Foregone.

Custom maps can also be played without delay immediately once uploaded onto a server, allowing players from across the world to join and play your map. They can also save your creation if they enjoyed it.

Evolution and One Flag Capture-the-Flag are the two new game modes set to be added to Splitgate for Season 1, while the addition of a mapmaker will enable anyone to create their very own map layouts, even enabling the co-creation and sharing of maps between friends. You can create and place objects, weapons, spawns, building blocks, portal walls, and other elements, with simple rotation and scenery that snaps together.

Im sure this is a dumb question but i never use the custom map section of game. I know u can go in and pick region and setup ur own map anf stuff. Did once before. But how do u go and use someone else custom map? Someone on here posted a custom map a few days ago and provided the CODE but were do u put the code and everything? Sorry guys i feel dumb on this?

I play on Linux and most of the custom maps just show the Loading... screen for me when the match starts, until it finally kicks me for inactivity. I think if I download the custom maps ahead of time it would maybe fix this.

To create a custom game, a player must switch to the "Custom" tab on the play screen and hit "Create". From there, they are given a choice of the Server Name, Region and maximum amount of players. They can also choose whether the server will be private - if chosen, they must enter a password with which another player can access the server.

Splitgate season 1 finally has a release date. After the content update was pushed back from its original December launch date, season 1 will now launch on January 27th, bringing with it a new custom map maker, extra modes, and lots more.

Originally, Splitgate was due to get its first season back in December last year. That didn't happen, but now, 1047 Games has announced that Splitgate season 1 will begin next week. First up, you're getting a brand new custom map creator, so you can make whatever kinds of levels you like. You can use both controller and keyboard and mouse controls, and you'll have access to a range of objects to place in your levels, as well as objects, spawns, portal walls, and lots of other stuff. 1047 CEO Ian Proulx says the map maker will "evolve" like the rest of Splitgate, so expect it to get more features in the future.

There's lots more coming in Splitgate season 1, of course. There's a reworked version of the Foregone Destruction map to explore, which 1047 says represents the "eye-popping fidelity" you can expect from future reworked and new maps. Two new modes are coming, too. These are Evolution, a round-based mode in which the losing team gets better gear each round, and One Flag, a variation on capture the flag in which teams play rounds of offense and defense. Of course, there's also a new Battle Pass which will add 100 new levels of unlocks, some of which will be paid. All of this launches for the game on January 27th, and it'll be a free update, although again, some of the content will require you to pony up some cash.

You're not just limited to casual and competitive modes, as you can also make your own with various rules. This November update includes an overhaul to custom game lobbies, an easier way to edit the game modes and maps. This new system looks a lot better, with you easily picking through various main modes each with different variants available with a lot more presets to choose from. The new game settings UI is also adjusted so it's split between things like Map, Mode, Team and Player options where you can really tweak all the individual bits - like giving each team different options.

Most of the maps in Splitgate are thrown into the same rotation, regardless of the game mode that players are searching for. That means finding the desired map can be tricky in Splitgate. However, there are a couple of methods that players can employ.

Sometimes there will be weekly challenges that are based on getting kills on a certain map. If players are pursuing that challenge for Lavawell, then using a custom game is out of the question. Instead, players will need to queue in public matches. Trying out game modes like SWAT may narrow down the search, but there is no guarantee.

If players don't care about the challenge and just want to select the Lavawell map, then creating a custom game is a viable option. As long as there are enough players to join the game, custom games can be started in Splitgate using any arena or map, like Lavawell.

We also know that Beta Season 1 will allow custom maps made by you and your friends to be playable in custom games, and anybody in the world can play and save your map if they like it. That means that not only will you be able to create the map of your dreams, but those constructions also have the possibility to gain traction in the community and go viral.

Splitgate Beta Season 1 will include all the hallmarks of big-budget F2P titles like Halo Infinite and Apex Legends: an improved 100-level battle pass that has thematically consistent skins, a new game mode called Evolution, a new map, and a custom map creator that will help get an already-active community even more engaged.

The custom map creator is a prime example of how 1047 wants to leverage its community to help shape Splitgate's growth. "For us, it's all about the community. Our mentality with every feature is that we want to get it into the hands of our community as quickly as possible. As soon as we have that Version 1.0 of a feature, we're putting it out there, because instead of us building on what we think players would want, we'd rather put it into their hands, get their feedback, and build it alongside them," says Proul.

With this custom map creator, you'll have various blocks and shapes at your disposal to build your maps, as well as options to place objectives and play any mode you'd like on whatever you build (and use bots). And brilliantly, Splitgate will allow you to build with up to eight friends in multiplayer, as well as upload and access all other custom maps made by players. For those of us who may be new to map-building, Splitgate seems to have figured out a way to do it that's very user-friendly, with clear UI, and the ability to swap between build and test with ease.

As a rule, portal guns make everything better. In the case of Splitgate, the ability for every player to place two ends of a teleporter turns an otherwise average arena FPS into a smart, tactical, team-based shooter in which outthinking your opponents is more important than outgunning them. It just doesn\u2019t do a great job of putting its best maps in the forefront for new players, which may be contributing to a downward spiral of problems stemming from low server populations. It deserves better.

Splitgate also limits the maps you\u2019ll see in your first 10 hours or so, gradually introducing its most complex arenas as you level up. Easing new players into this fast-paced physics-bending gameplay is a good idea in theory, but in practise it means that outside of custom games you\u2019ll see the same handful of maps over and over again in ranked play for far too long. Playing on a new set of maps when you reach a certain level also creates another unnecessary difficulty spike: knowing the map layouts is critical in any arena shooter, and being forced to face higher-level players on unfamiliar maps makes me feel like a newbie all over again.

It\u2019s a shame they didn\u2019t just include all the arenas from the start, because those higher-level maps are the most interesting ones. Highwind, for example, is a collection of pagodas with sloped roofs against a forest backdrop, with wooden bridges snaking between buildings. It\u2019s a million miles from the grey walkways of the starter maps, but no more complex, so it would\u2019ve worked well for new players. Instead, it\u2019s locked off until you reach a certain, unspecified level.

On certain maps this is even more of an issue. Stadium is a small map where each team can view and portal into the other team's spawn area from the very start, so it's an important thing to learn to expect. e24fc04721
