Lilies only show up in a few places in the temple, in the paintings of Jesus healing and teaching.
The best example is in the waiting room that is used as a gathering area for those arriving to do baptisms.
There is a painting of Jesus teaching and all around are lilies.
Lilies were part of the design of Solomon's temple.Â
The capitals of the pillars (Jachim and Boaz) were designed with lily work: "And the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of lily work in the porch"
Also the Sea of Brass was described like a lily: "It stood on twelve oxen, three facing the north, three facing west, three facing south and three facing east; and the sea was set on top of them and all their hindquarters turned inwards. It was a handbreadth thick, and its brim was made like the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom"
Lilies shows up a lot in Song of Solomon. The best example is: "as the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters"
I think this indicates that each of us is something very special. A lily among the thorns is a delightful and surprisingly beautiful thing.
Hosea uses the lily to teach about our potential with God. From Hosea chapter 5: "O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God...I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily."
My favorite interpretation of the lily is the Lord's teaching: "Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?"
Trust God to keep His promises. Have faith in your Savior.
