In the midst of uncertainty, the practices of Ignatian discernment can be a helpful tool for our continuing reflection on our lives and our world. This week we encourage you to pay attention to the interior movements of consolation and desolation as we pray with scenes from Jesus’ public ministry.
As we look at our life and how we are responding to the call of Jesus, we are challenged to follow Jesus into the difficult places of our lives. It is sometimes in the “desert” with Jesus that we find the strength to confront our own subconscious prejudices and wrestle with the ways that such perceptions have shaped our lives.
This is a process of reflecting on our choices and the world we are trying to create. Throughout these experiences St. Ignatius encourages us to pay attention to our interior movements. We encourage you to also continue to pay attention to the interior movements of consolation and desolation.
As you consider the Beatitudes, the response of the rich young man, and the poem of Amanda Gorman, notice the vision of what it means to be “blessed.” Pay attention to the places where you are being drawn into that vision and the places of resistance or hesitation.

Grace for the Week
I ask for the grace to recognize the places of desolation and consolation in my life.
