ACCOMMODATION
There are several options for places to stay:
The Hub Guest House provides on-campus accommodation, although room numbers are limited.
Travelodge Egham Hotel is situated in the centre of Egham, about a 20-minute walk from campus. It is serviced by bus 8 and bus 441.
Premier Inn Staines-upon-Thames Hotel. This hotel is a bit further away (an hour walk from campus) but is also serviced by bus 8 and bus 441 from the Staines Bus Station, which is a 4 minute walk away from the Hotel.
Other hotel options can be found here, although some of them are quite pricey.
TRAVEL
By Train
There are frequent services from London Waterloo to Egham (35-40 minutes); Woking to Egham (35 minutes, change at Weybridge) and Reading to Egham (40 minutes). Services at weekends, especially those on Sundays, are less frequent than on weekdays. Train links to the rest of the country are available via the London stations or Reading. The train station in Egham is less than a mile and roughly a 25min walk (uphill!) from campus. There are also usually taxis waiting outside Egham station to take you to Royal Holloway.
For those arriving at London Heathrow (which is less than 10 miles from Egham), we strongly recommend that you do not take the expensive black cabs, but call either Windsor Cars http://www.windsorcars.com/ (+44 1753 677 677) or Gemini Cars http://www.geminicars.co.uk/ (+44 1784 450 450). Windsor Cars have a dedicated email for pre-booking journeys: bookings@windsorcars.com. Taxis from Heathrow are approximately £25.00 and a taxi ride takes around 30min depending on traffic.
Alternatively, there is a bus service from London Heathrow Terminal 5 to Royal Holloway. The number 8 bus leaves from outside Terminal 5 (Stop 8 on the Bus Terminal right outside Arrivals). If you arrive at another terminal, follow flight connection signs for “Internal airport transfer to T5”. A bus fare is roughly £3.00 and takes 45min.
