Influences of Proinflammatory (Interleukin 6/ IL-6) and Anti-inflammatory (Melatonin) Factors on mitochondria in Mouse and Human adipocytes cell line/s

The purpose of this research is to investigate the influences of Melatonin and Interlukin-6 that have previously been shown to cause biological changes on adipocytes. Adipocytes identified as white, store energy and brown adipocytes consumes energy. Melatonin is an anti-inflammatory hormone that has demonstrated to induce changes on adipocytes from white to brown. The purpose of this study is to measure the transformation of white adipocytes to brown adipocytes by treatment with melatonin. Interlukin-6, an inflammatory cytokine that plays an immune response and metabolism in the pathogenesis of obesity and diabetes in patients. Although its specific role is not fully understood, research has shown that high levels of IL-6 cause instability of the mitochondria in mouse adipocytes. The purpose of this study is to test if Il-6 cause changes in the dynamics of the mitochondria.
