2 1/2 cups sugar
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup water
4 cups fresh cranberries
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
**optional -- 1 Granny Smith apple (peeled and diced very small)
In a medium – large sauce pan, combine sugar, lemon juice and water. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Add in cranberries and spices. (& optional apple)
Bring to a boil and then reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes. Stir often and sauce will thicken.
Pour into serving dish and refrigerate. (store up to 1 week or freeze)
