Escape the Minotaur
This lesson introduces students to the "roll command" for Sphero. Students first explore the myth "Theseus and the Minotaur" and use summaries of the story to come up with an algorithm for saving the Athenians from the minotaur. Students will then use sequencing to navigate the Minotaur's labyrinth and slay the minotaur.
Optional Extension
If you wish to have students rescue robots from inside the maze, or if you prefer to give this lesson a social emotional twist, you can use this printout to add friends for Sphero with varying needs that can be met by utilizing the light and sound commands available to Sphero.
Materials
Device for each pair of students with access to the Sphero Edu App (tablets) or access to the web app.
Maze making materials (see below for optional designs)
Thematic materials ( recommend a printout of a minotaur for each maze for the students to run over and string to signify the start of the maze ).

Maze Designs
A few things to consider when designing a maze:
Students should have to travel all directions (up, down, left, right)
Be sure to block off students from "riding the rails" if you use physical barriers.
Break up straightaways with books or other objects around your classroom.
Add complexity to a maze by having students stop and reach certain goals (see extension)
