Privacy Policy for SpendSplit

Welcome to SpendSplit: Expense Tracker ("we," "our," or "the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled when you use our mobile application.

Our primary architecture is offline-first and privacy-focused. We do not operate remote servers to store your personal financial data, account records, or group bills.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

No Account Registration: You do not need to create an account, log in via social accounts, or provide your email address to use SpendSplit.
No Financial Data Harvesting: We do not read, transmit, store, or sell your transactions, income, expense logs, budget caps, debts, group names, or notes.
No Cloud Backups by Default: All database operations (SQLite) reside strictly in your device’s local private sandboxed storage.

2. Information Handled Locally on Your Device

The App processes the following data exclusively on your device:

Financial & Group Split Records: Your transactions, categories, balances, and group splits are stored locally in an offline SQLite database.
Biometrics & Security PIN: If you enable App Lock, your 4-digit PIN hash is stored in flutter_secure_storage (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain). Biometric authentication (Fingerprint / Face ID) is processed entirely by your device’s native hardware APIs via local_auth. We never have access to your raw biometric credentials.
App Preferences: Settings such as your preferred currency, language, and theme are stored locally using device preferences.
Manual Data Export & Backups: When you export a CSV report, plain-text summary, or JSON backup, the file is created locally on your device storage. You retain complete control over where and how you share it.

3. Third-Party Services & Data Collection

While the core features of SpendSplit operate offline, the App utilizes third-party SDKs to serve advertisements. These third parties may automatically collect and process certain device information:

Google AdMob

We use Google AdMob to display banner and interstitial ads. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and process:

IP Address: Used to estimate general geographic location (city/country level).
Device Identifiers: Advertising ID (GAID / IDFA), App Set ID, and device hardware specifications.
Interaction Data: Ad impressions, clicks, app launch diagnostics, and crash logs for ad delivery, fraud prevention, and performance analytics.

All data transmitted by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit via Transport Layer Security (TLS).

4. Device Permissions Requested

SpendSplit requests minimal permissions, strictly necessary to support user-initiated features:

USE_BIOMETRIC / USE_FINGERPRINT: Used solely to prompt the local hardware sensor when unlocking the App (if enabled in Security Settings).
INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Required solely by the Google AdMob SDK to request and load advertisements. Core tracking and group splitting features do not require an internet connection.

5. Children’s Privacy

SpendSplit is a general utility app designed for tracking personal and shared group expenses. It does not target children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Our advertising content ratings are capped at PG (Parental Guidance) to block inappropriate, adult, or 18+ content.

6. Data Deletion and Retention

Because your financial records are stored entirely on your device:

You can delete individual transactions, categories, or entire groups at any time within the App.
Clearing App Data or Uninstalling the App permanently deletes your local database, secure PIN, and cached settings from your device.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App following any updates indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
