About The Spence Hornet Band

The Spence MS Hornet Band prides itself on its relentless pursuit of excellence and success for all members as well as equipping our students with the necessary skills to be successful citizens and productive members of society through a quality music experience and education. Not only do SMS students learn the value of quality music performances, but they also learn what it takes to produce those experiences, and, therefore, learn the value of leadership skills such as hard work, cooperation, organization, and preparedness. 

The Spence Band has a large Beginner Band, which is taught in  separate, homogenous class (Flute Class, Trumpet Class, Saxophone Class, etc) . However, these classes do combine to perform as our large Beginner Band ensemble for concerts and festivals, and have even received superior ratings at many of the festivals they have attended!

Our 7th and 8th grade bands are audition based ensembles, and are co-taught by both directors. These ensembles have received numerous accolades over the years from various festivals and are wholly committed to the achievement of excellence in all areas of music performance.

The Spence MS Hornet Band prides itself on its high standards of excellence and success for all members as well as being our student's "home away from home". Students can often be found coming in early before school and staying late after school to practice their instruments and socialize with friends in the friendly and welcoming environment of the band hall.
