Child Find is a requirement under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that mandates public schools to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities who are in need of special education and related services. The goal of Child Find is to ensure that all children, including those with disabilities, have access to a free appropriate public education (FAPE). Schools must conduct screenings and evaluations to identify children who may have a disability that could impact their learning and development, and provide them with appropriate support and services. This requirement applies to all children, including those who are homeless, wards of the state, or attending private schools.
