Suppoorting educators of color and their allies
The Southeastern PA Educators of Color Network (SPECN) is an initiative with a significant purpose and a variety of programs aimed at supporting educators of color and their allies in the suburban public schools of the Philadelphia region.
This comprehensive approach not only supports educators of color in their professional journey but also fosters an inclusive and equitable educational environment in the region. By focusing on community building, professional development, and career advancement, SPECN is playing a crucial role in shaping a more diverse and empowered educational landscape.
Creating a Supportive Space: SPECN focuses on forming a community where educators of color and allies can unite and provide mutual support.
Addressing and Elevating Leadership: The network aims to influence and uplift leadership to support historically marginalized groups in education.
Developing a Safe Environment: It strives to offer a platform for educators to exchange ideas, resources, and support through professional and social interactions.
Teachers/Counselors and Administrators of Color Affinity Group Programs:
These programs offer an informal, supportive space for educators of color to build community, strengthen self-advocacy tools, and enhance anti-racist pedagogy.
SPECN Professional Development Programs:
SPECN organizes professional development programs to educate the wider education community. These programs provide insights and strategies for recruiting and supporting educators of color in school communities.
Career Advancement: The job board is designed to open and advance career opportunities in local education by connecting schools with educators seeking positions, ensuring that the educators’ expertise aligns with the needs of the positions.
