As someone who loves great sound quality, I’m always on the lookout for speakers that deliver exceptional audio without being too expensive. This past Christmas, my parents gave me the Edifier R1280T speakers, and I was absolutely thrilled. I’d heard so many good things about them, and they seemed like the perfect addition to my audio setup. Let me take you through the unboxing, setup process, and overall performance of these speakers.
A Christmas Surprise for an Audiophile
On Christmas morning, I eagerly unwrapped my gift and saw the Edifier R1280T logo on the box. I couldn’t wait to see what was inside! As an audiophile, I’ve spent a lot of time researching speakers that strike the right balance of sound quality, style, and value. My parents had really listened to my interests, and I was excited to test them out.

When I opened the box, I found everything I needed to get the speakers up and running:
User Manual: A clear, multi-lingual guide for setting up and using the speakers.
Remote Control: A compact remote with three buttons: mute, volume up, and volume down. (I had to remove a small plastic tab to activate the battery.)
Speaker Cable: A 2.3-meter cable that’s perfect for most desk setups, color-coded for easy connection.
Phono to Phono Cable: A 1.5-meter cable to connect the two speakers together.
3.5mm to Phono Cable: For connecting the speakers to devices like a PC, phone, or MP3 player.
I was impressed with how neatly everything was packaged and ready to go.
The moment I took the speakers out of the box, I was impressed by the build and design. These speakers have a stylish wood veneer finish on the sides, with a sleek grey front panel. They look and feel high-quality. Here are some features that stood out:
Dimensions: The speakers are 24 cm tall, 14.5 cm wide, and 16 cm deep.
Grille: The grilles are removable, offering a modern, sleek look while also letting you peek at the speaker components inside.
Back Panel: The active speaker has controls for power, input selection (Auxiliary and PC), and a connection point to link the two speakers together. The passive speaker gets power from the active speaker.
Controls: The active speaker has three knobs for volume, bass, and treble. Each knob has tactile notches that make it easy to adjust even without looking.
Setting up the Edifier R1280T speakers was incredibly easy:
Connecting the Speakers: The color-coded speaker cables made it simple to connect the active and passive speakers. I attached the copper cable to the red terminal (positive) and the silver cable to the black terminal (negative).
Connecting to My PC: Using the 3.5mm to phono cable, I connected the red and white connectors to the active speaker and plugged the 3.5mm jack into my PC.
While these speakers don’t have Bluetooth or optical inputs, I wasn’t bothered. I could easily use a Bluetooth dongle if I wanted to stream music wirelessly. For now, the wired setup worked perfectly, and as an audiophile, I prefer a stable, high-quality connection.
Once everything was connected, I was blown away by the sound quality. For their size, these speakers really pack a punch. Here’s what stood out:
Volume: The speakers get loud without distortion, even at maximum volume. Whether I was listening to music or watching movies, the sound remained clear and vibrant.
Bass and Treble: The bass and treble knobs let me fine-tune the sound to my liking. I could easily adjust for different types of content, from podcasts to action-packed movies.
Sound Clarity: The speakers deliver excellent clarity across all frequencies. The mids and highs are crisp, while the bass is deep and full without overpowering the other sounds.
As I tested different types of music, from acoustic tracks to bass-heavy beats, the R1280Ts consistently impressed with their balanced and immersive sound.
The Edifier R1280T speakers exceeded my expectations. As an audiophile, I’m always looking for speakers that offer both value and great sound, and these speakers deliver on both. They are well-built, easy to set up, and produce fantastic sound quality. I highly recommend them for anyone who wants to upgrade their audio setup, whether it’s for a PC, gaming, or just enjoying music.
If you’re considering these speakers, they are a great option if you don’t need Bluetooth or optical inputs. The sound quality alone makes them a great investment. My parents couldn’t have picked a better gift for me this Christmas. They not only look great on my desk but also provide the rich, full sound I love.
