SPCP: Strengthening Police Community Partnerships
This section will provide definitions of police-related terms such as you might find in the police log. The intent is to publish here the answers to inquiries about the meanings of various terms.
MOU - Memorandum of Understanding
SRO - School Resource Officer
This is where we will post answers to questions that were asked anonymously. For example, if you drop a card in the drop box with a question about police procedure, the question and answer will be posted here. Since there is no way to respond directly to a card with no contact information on it, this is how we can respond. If you want a private response, please write that on the card and provide contact information.
Question: How can Blanchard have a School Resource Officer if there is no Memorandum of Understanding between the school and the police department?
Response: There actually is an MOU, posted here: https://abschools.community.diligentoneplatform.com/home/policies/policydoc/887ffd06-ee72-4878-b926-9b1185058e6d. For more information about the Blanchard school resource officers, visit this link.
Suggestion: Increase neighborhood visibility
Response: Boxborough Police Department is working on ways to increase neighborhood visibility. The BPD tries to be visible at town events, like Winterfest and the Free Bee events. Also, the K9 unit (Officer Max Bressi and Koda) try to spend time engaging with the community in a friendly outreach.
Suggestion: Interact more with the community by riding on bicycles or motorcycles
Response: The town used to have motorbikes leased from Littleton Electric. Officer Nate Bowolick offered to check whether they would be interested in doing that again. The town does have bicycles, which the officers could ride at town events, but in general Boxborough roads are not suitable for the police to routinely patrol on bicycle.
Suggestion: Equally staff all shifts at the Police Department
Response: When the department is fully staffed, there is equal coverage with a senior officer on duty at all times. The department was down three officers at the time of this suggestion. Since then Officer Chris Lowney was reappointed on Monday, 09 Feb 2026, at the Select Board Meeting. The situation with the officer on IOD (Injury on Duty) will be resolved soon, and another officer will be able to be hired in the near future.
