Strengthening Police Community Partnerships (SPCP)
Welcome to the Boxborough SPCP website.
The goal of the SPCP is to strengthen the partnership between the community and its police force.
This mission depends largely on communication between the community and the police force, as well as between the police force and the community. The police force uses many methods to pass information to the community, including a Facebook account, an Instagram account, a website, and even a LinkedIn account. The police department also reaches out to the community through events like the annual Tree Lighting at the Fire Department, participating in the biannual National Drug Take Back Day, and supporting events like the Winterfest at Steele Farm. Since 2024, Chief John Szewczyk has also been adding special events like the book club last year and the upcoming Holocaust Remembrance Day at the Sargent Memorial Library.
The more difficult task is for the community to communicate to the police department. That is the aim of this webpage.
The Boxborough SPCP has devised a couple of communication channels for the community, and we are eager to expand the ways to make it easy for the community to provide input.
The SPCP created an email address anyone can use to pass information to the entire council. spcpbxb@gmail.com will send an email to every member of the community volunteers that form the SPCP council.
The other method, for those who prefer not to use electronic means, is through a drop box that will be available at Winterfest, other town events, and will be kept at a public location to be determined. The town hall and the Sargent Memorial library have both been suggested as good, accessible locations, but the details are yet to be decided.
The SPCP council is also working on a means to submit comments through this website to an unmonitored database, so that no one has to supply a personal email address to submit ideas electronically. Come back to this site in a month or so to see how that progress is going.
If you have questions about how the police department operates, about policies that require the officers to behave in certain ways in certain situations, about how many officers there are, who they are, and what they do from day to day, this is the place to submit those questions. If you have suggestions for improving the department or the way the department interacts with the community, this is the place to submit those suggestions. Or, if you just want to know more about what an item in the Police Log means, this is the place to ask. Do you want to know exactly what a "BUILDING / LOCATION CHECK" is, or what falls under the category of "HARASSMENT", or what the term "COMMUNITY POLICING" means, send us a question. We're here to help.
