Haley Pilot School School Parent Council (SPC) Meeting Notes
October 4, 2023
The School Parent Council
SPC needs new leaders for open positions now. Current terms are ending, and we are happy to support and mentor newcomers. Please contact haleyparentcouncil@gmail.com with your interest in taking on a leadership role including co-chair, secretary, and treasurer.
Goals of the SPC:
Fundraising - supporting the field trips in the spring
Voice of the school - parents coming together to support all aspects if the school
Ideas:
Find ways to incorporate feedback/responses at existing school events.
How to get more people involved in meetings and the events, etc.
Get room parents more involved - have a meeting to let room parents know what can be done, think about what the role can be.
Room parents could meet every other month or so.
Partner with teachers to see what they would like or need
Trivia night fundraiser has been fun in the past
Almost every month, there is some kind of school event that the SPC could tag information onto.
Next steps:
SPC leadership will organize the room parents
Ms. Sullivan and Mr. Graham will check the survey to see what kind of information we have received from parents about how to best be in touch with them.
Q & A /Topics that arose
Seems like the first few days of school have gone more smoothly this year. Is this your perspective as well?
Yes, first days went really smoothly. Fully staffed for the first time in years. Classrooms are almost all full as well which helps to set a nice start to the year so community can be built right away.
Bathroom renovation is starting 10/16. Some will be gutted and some will just be updated. This will disrupt things for a bit, and there will be a schedule for when classes will use the bathrooms. Phase I and Phase II of the renovations will go through April vacation.
Electrical updating has begun and will probably be ready by December. Then the A/C will be dropped in and running.
Solar panels will be coming in at some point this year.
The school is advocating for a crosswalk to go in across the street connecting the school to the church parking lot. 2A is advocating for this as a social justice project. The SPC will also find ways to support this project.
Lunch menu shows great options and is open and free to all students. Students get to make their own choices. The food is delicious and the staff in the cafeteria are lovely.
