Election Day Bake Sale
When: Tuesday, November 2
Where: Woodbourne Apartments (corner of Southbourne Road and Hyde Park Avenue)
What you can do:
Staff the tent. Usually one or two parents put baked goods on the tables, take care of the money, etc.
Drop off baked goods to sell the morning of. You can either email your idea for a baked good or just drop something off at the tent at the election site (ex: cookies, bars, breads, peanut free, gluten free)
Why: Great way to meet other Haley families and visit with the community. In past years, the Haley bake sale raised about $500 dollars!!
Contact the Parent Council at haleyparentcouncil@gmail.com to let us know how you can contribute.
Uniforms/School Store
The Parent Council hosted a Uniform Swap and also sold uniforms at the Open House in September.
If you have used uniforms that you would like to donate, drop them off in a bag at the front door of the school.
If you are in need of uniforms, contact Mr. Graham for assistance.
Haley Swag is different from the school uniform (although they can both be born interchangeably). Order forms for Haley Swag were sent home. Profits from the Swag fund the Staff Wellness Fund
School store is likely to open early in the new year. Various items, including school uniforms, will be sold at the store. Other ideas include: water bottles, car magnets, little footballs and other toys, fidget toys (get recommendations from the Haley OT specialist), Haley logo winter hats, mittens, scarves, folders, pencils, hawk shaped pop-ups, common school supplies, haley logo masks
Set up an Amazon page for parents to contribute ideas of items that could be sold at the store
Students may be able to work the store as part of a learning experience
All profits will fund Friends of the Haley, which is used for school field trips.
Fundraising
Past Years
Bake Sale
Chocolate Sale
Read-a-thon
Parent/Teacher Social
Scholastic Book Fair
Spring Spectacular! (hosted at the BNC, included live auction, silent auction, face painting, historically happened in May. Did not have the past two years) There is a feeling that it might be time to look at different types of large fundraisers.
This Year
Bake Sale (November 2)
Read-a-thon (late February)
Book Sale (vendor to be determined, maybe Rozziebound or another bookstore in Boston who may partner with us.)
Big event to replace Spring Spectacular??
Item for sale (ie. Sumner Soap). Something unique that we could make and market that would offer continual support?
Ask older kids for some ideas?
Homemade bookmarks?
Have students build and sell items? Something related to the boat making class - wooden objects for sale (birdhouses, free library boxes, make different things from scrap pieces of the boats.)
School cookbook
Promote the school store - this is a new venture where we could create some excitement and also elicit donations and involvement. One idea is to create a form with multiple options of how a person could donate to the store or just to Friends of the Haley, in general. Make this a straight ask, especially in the spirit of asking parents to donate to stock the school store. Contribute with an item, with money, or with other ways to get involved. Get behind the excitement - it is new and fun.
Place to donate on the website - we will make sure it is up to date
Would a group of parents want to get together to brainstorm other fundraising ideas?
Speakers
Brainstorm of topics or people that we would like to hear from this year
In the past, parents have liked hearing the Health teacher present about the curriculum for each Haley class.
A night to hear from Benjamin Franklin Institute about college and trade school opportunities.
Bullying and social interactions
Nurse Donovan for a COVID update - update parents on the science of the vaccination for the younger kids when it is available. Also how COVID fits with other typical winter ailments.
Other common school health issues e.g. lice
Child development and how pandemic may have impacted development. What does it look like to help bridge any gaps? foster positive interactions with the kids?
Have Alex come twice to talk about a few different topics
Other topics
Does the SPC want to advocate for more recess time?
Does the BSO still partner with the Haley?
How to encourage more parents to attend Haley Parent Council meetings?
Ask teachers to attend and for them to ask parents to come. “Will you come?”
Put more council info in the weekly newsletter that classroom teachers send to parents
Mix up the times of the meetings in hopes of catching more people.
Thank you, Kerianne, for volunteering to help maintain the Parent Council website!
Thank you to all who attended, and we look forward to seeing more parents at the next meeting!
