Haley Pilot School SPC Meeting

Special thanks to Alex Freeman, School Psychologist at the Haley, for joining to share information about the Haley’s Comprehensive Behavioral Health Model and some ways that parents may be able to extend school social emotional support to home.
The Haley works on a tiered system of social emotional support.
Tier 1
Morning meetings – time to address issues in the world in a developmentally appropriate way
Open Circle – in the Middle School
Second Step – social/emotional curriculum in the K to 5 classrooms. There is a link shared of resources to use at home
Social Thinking! – originally a curriculum for kids on the autism spectrum that is useful in many realms of social emotional learning
Mascot – the Haley Hawk – fun way to build community
Buddy classrooms – older classrooms visit younger classrooms (on pause due to Covid)
Peace Keeper Award-Highlight for kids on Friday afternoons. Given to kids who demonstrate the school values that week.
Pass/Break System – kids can take breaks and also self-regulate by visiting the animals in the front hallway
Lesson Plans to teach behavioral expectations
Think sheets – reflection on actions and restore the difficulty
Core values PEACE (Positivity, Expectations, Acceptance, Community, Engagement)

Haley Parent Council Announcements
Read-a-thon started on Monday. 27 students have signed up and $1270 has been raised. Please register your child and also encourage others to be part. Here is the link: https://pledgestar.com/haley
Bookfair with Rozzie Bound books has also started. The Haley received 50% of proceeds from the books on the Haley BookShelf: https://bookshop.org/lists/friends-of-the-haley-pilot-school-book-fair
Citywide parent council meetings once/month. The SPC is looking for a volunteer to attend these meetings and bring information to the Haley.
