Career Goal Narrative
I have not yet decided on a career, but the field of Engineering has always interested me.
From a young age, I was always fascinated with how the things around me worked, from common household objects to rockets and planes. I would take objects apart just to see how they worked, even if I wouldn’t be able to put them back together afterwards.
I decided that this career field was right for me when I looked at how extensive the field of Engineering is and how it can encompass practically any goal you would ever want to achieve. This wide field was right for me because it holds thousands of options, which was good because I haven’t decided what career path I will pursue. Even though I don’t know what path I am travelling, nearly every path involves Engineering, so no matter what I choose I will be prepared for the future.
I have taken classes such as Physics, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, and Engineering to assist in achieving my career choice, whatever that may be, in the engineering field.
I have learned a lot of math formulas, several physics formulas, and many geometry formulas that will help with my future profession. In addition, I have learned how to work as part of a team with other students and effectively communicate with other people. I will also get hands-on experience for my future profession at the James Forest Career and Tech Center.
I have participated in several extracurricular activities over the years, such as band, swimming, and theatre. These activities taught me how to communicate and work together with other people, and overcome hardship. One activity that I participated in outside of school was sailing. Sailing will help with my career choice in engineering as it requires an intimate knowledge of physics to get anywhere. I have not been employed before, but will likely gain employment in the future, which will teach things such as teamwork and communication.
I have no immediate plans for after graduation from high school, but do plan to pursue some sort of higher education. I, however, will never join the military, as I would not be accepted due to disability. Pursuing higher education, such as apprenticeships or college, is very important in the field of engineering, so that will influence my choices. However, my plan will likely change with time, as I discover more about myself and what I want to do with my life. Due to changing plans, I am unsure about where I will continue my training/education.
Once I achieve my career goal, I will try to give back to my community by creating infrastructure improvements and inventing items to protect and monitor our natural waters. I will affect the society I live in by engineering solutions to common problems and giving back to my community through donations and volunteering. When I attain my dream the quality of life for the average person will drastically improve, and problems such as pollution and overpopulation will no longer be issues.I am going to try to have a positive and substantial impact in the world.
