The Sparr Heights Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is a locally implemented initiative that teaches people how to better prepare themselves for hazards that may affect their communities. The Sparr Heights CERT operates under the Glendale Fire Department CERT, which regularly runs free hybrid disaster preparedness training courses covering basic disaster response skills, home utilities shut-off, and fire suppression.
Most recently, the Sparr Heights CERT group secured a new emergency preparedness pod for the neighborhood. This effort started with a CERT Bingo fundraiser by the Knights of Columbus in Montrose, raising nearly $4,000. GFD partnered with Public Works and Parks to relocate the pod and donated light search and rescue tools to help strengthen neighborhood disaster readiness.
