Sparks holds open auditions twice a year, once at the beginning of the fall semester and once before winter break in December. 

In the fall, we hold two open auditions, one of which prospective dancers need to attend before being selected to attend a callback audition. Prior to auditions, we also hold a workshop!

Winter 2024 Auditions will be held on: 

*We have allocated a three-hour block for each audition to accommodate a range of dancer attendance numbers and to ensure a fair evaluation of all dancers. However, auditions will likely not last this long -- typically they are around two hours.

FAQ

Open auditions begin with a ballet barre, and then a jazz across-the-floor consisting of jumps, turns, and combinations. Dancers will then learn two excerpts of choreography (often jazz or contemporary) and perform it in small groups. 

Callbacks are similar, with new choreography! Expect improvisation before or after the excerpt. 


We of course look for good technique, but also enjoy watching dancers who showcase their passion for dance. Have fun and don't be afraid to show your personality! Our company is composed of dancers from diverse movement backgrounds, from competitive and pre-professional dancers to dancers who have taken a break and returned. 


Wear attire that you can comfortably dance in. If you have ballet shoes, jazz shoes, half soles, or socks, feel feel to bring those!
