Why
A zone schedule is a very detailed master schedule for the classroom. It outlines where each student and staff member is and what activities are taking place during each time period throughout the day. It can be used in any educational environment across the continuum of services. According to research, instilling classroom structure is one of "the most effective strategies in reducing behavioral problems," (de Swart et. al., 2022).
Benefits of Zone Schedules:
Provide structure and predictability for students and all staff (including related service providers)
Identify trouble spots when reflecting on data (behavior, academic, routines)
Maximize instructional time
Easily get back on track when classroom disruptions occur
High Leverage Practices #7, #15 and #17 (McLeskey et. al., 2022)
