Each Spanish Club includes some review, a game or a craft, speaking practice, and a 5-10 minute break for students to get their wiggles out and eat a snack if they've brought one. The curriculum is flexible based on how the students are responding to the pace. The workbooks we use (Elementary Spanish Level 1 and Elementary Spanish Level 2) have activities and instructions that correspond with the outlines above.
Common Questions about Spanish Club
Q: What if my student cannot read yet?
A: It may be best to wait for an upcoming class, as often we are reading words and phrases on the page as we speak new words. Or, see about whether your school is open to a Spanish Club Grades K-2, where reading is much less prevalent.
Q: What if my student will miss a class or two?
A: Things happen, like appointments, sickness, you name it, so often students miss a class or two each session. They can either catch up with me before class or during the break for a primer, or bring their workbook home to look through some of the material before they return to class.
Q: What if my student has never learned Spanish before?
A: ¡Perfecto! Almost all students come in with no experience. We will start from the very beginning so everyone gets the same foundation. Younger students will tend to get more drawing and speaking based adjustments, older students or students with Spanish experience will have the option for an extra challenge if desired.
