The Spanish Graduate Student Association (SPAGrad) at Arizona State University invites you to participate in its 23nd Annual Conference of Literature, Culture, and Visual Arts. This year’s conference looks to explore how our present day critical lens and interdisciplinary perspectives shape the way we perceive different works of literature, humanities, and arts. The purpose of the conference is to open up a dialogue about how current views within the fields of but not limited to politics, society, technology, and gender create a different starting point to the way we understand and interpret expressions in literature, humanities, and arts including visual and interpretative arts.

Thus, the organizing committee requests that submissions be related to the aforementioned themes within, but not limited to, the following topics:

-Film, Theater and Performance

-Graphic Novel, Comics, and Photography

-Identity, Border Studies, and Nationalism

-Digital Humanities, Media, and Blogs

-Religion, Spirituality, and Myth

-Video and Filmmaking

-Jewish Studies

-Classic and Pre-Modern Literature

-Globalization, Economy, and Masses

-Disability Studies -

-Painting, Sculpture, Music

-Urban Studies, Folklore, and Immigration

-Feminism, Gender Studies, Queer Theory

-Violence, Torture, and Exile

-Middle Eastern and Arabic studies

-Religious Studies

-Sound Studies

-Lusophone Literature

-Ethnics Studies/Literature, Native/Indigenous Literature

-Animal Studies

All abstracts must be 250 words maximum in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. Please submit the title of paper/panel, name of presenter, university affiliation, email address, and a brief biography of 150 words maximum. Presentations are typically 15 minutes with a Q&A session at the end of the panel. Deadline for sending proposals is November 18th, 2019​.

Conference organizers will contact you regarding acceptance within a maximum of two weeks after receiving the proposal. Please confirm your attendance before ​December 8th, 2019 by email, or by postal service to the following address:

Conference registration fee will be $35. Please be sure to pay the registration fee (only cash accepted) during the registration period. There is no cost for non-presenting attendees.
