Basic info

This is a supermassive black hole located at the center of Messier 87. It was the first black hole to have its picture taken which was photographed in 2017 and released to the public about 2 years later. It was discovered in 1994. Only 2 black holes have had their picture taken, with the other one being Sagittarius A*

It is GIGANTIC compared to the Milky Way black hole: Sagittarius A*
It also has the name ”Pōwehi”.
It means “the adorned fathomless dark creation”.
The Event Horizon Telescope took the picture.
It is an array of multiple telescopes scattered around the globe.
They used polarized light to take the second one.
This page was only made for a science project.
M87 is just the name of its galaxy. That made it very hard to find information on this.
Like any other supermassive black hole, it was likely formed by a quasi-star.
