Feminist and Queer Solidarities Beyond Borders

This two-year project starts in August 2019. It is developed in collaboration between researchers from Spaces of Resistance (Selin Çağatay, Mia Liinason and Olga Sasunkevich) and our colleagues from Norway (Deniz Akin, Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Mina Wikshåland Skouen, the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, Norway) and Finland (Faith Mkwesha, University of Helsinki/ SahWira Africa International NGO). The project is inspired by the idea to bring together activists and scholars from Nordic countries, Russia and Turkey into a productive dialogue about how activists and researchers in these variegated locations challenge anti-gender and homophobic policies in times of political backlash against democracy and the rise of the far-right. The project is planned as a series of three workshops where activists and researchers will gather together to discuss and practice transnational solidarity beyond professional and national borders.

Currently the following workshops are being planned within the project's scope:

  • 27-29 April 2020, Trondheim, Norway
  • 6-8 October 2020, Gothenburg, Sweden
  • 19-21 April 2021, Turku, Finland

In addition, a final conference will be held in Istanbul on October 4-6, 2021.

The project is supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers and administered by the Department of Cultural Sciences at the University of Gothenburg. Please, send your questions to the project manager Olga Sasunkevich (olga.sasunkevich at gu.se).
