Quick Start Guide

To get started:

Download the CAD models. Print designs according to your printer's specifications. Familiarise yourself with the names of the parts.
Purchase the parts listed here. Familiarise yourself with the names of the parts.
Download the rest of the files listed on the downloads page. You will need these later.

Put aside the Servo and the Stepper Motor.
Wire everything else to the breadboard according to Figure 2. To make it as neat as possible, you may wish to route wires underneath the Particle Photon, although this may be slightly more difficult to debug.
Connect your opto-interruptor using the wires indicated in the schematic (for the ZD1901). If you have a different opto-interruptor, you will need to check the specific schematic.
To connect the stepper motor, a 5 pin right angle header can be used to simplify wiring, allowing your stepper motor to be easily connected and disconnected.
To connect the servo, a 3 pin vertical header can be used to simplify wiring.

The finished breadboard should be similar to Figure 1.

Slide the servo into the servo casing. The wire of the servo should come through the slot at the back of the casing.
Feed the wire through the shaft. It should come out of the shaft through the hole opposite the shaft's "arm".
Attach the servo casing onto the shaft. A notch on the shaft indicates correct orientation.
Fit the opto-interrupter casing onto the table by passing it through the hole on the table, from below the table (as shown in Figure).
Glue the opto-interrupter casing in its place.
Fit the stepper motor onto the table.
Attach the breadboard to the base with adhesive (tape, glue etc.).
Now, wire the stepper motor onto the breadboard. (refer to Figure 2)
Place the opto-interrupter into the opto-interrupter casing. Make sure the opening in opto-interrupter is facing towards the center of the table.
Wire the opto-interrupter to the breadboard. (refer to Figure 2)
Fit the base of the shaft onto the stepper motor.
Wire the servo onto the breadboard. (refer to Figure 2)
Check the opto-interrupter height, ensuring the shaft's "arm" can pass through the opening easily.
Place the dome over the shaft and allow it to rest on the base. The opening at the bottom of the base should be on the side where the particle photon is on the breadboard.
Attach the shark pointer to the servo.

Your Space Shark is almost ready to go!

Plug in to a power source using the Particle Photon (such as a computer or other USB battery source).
Make sure your device has been claimed and is connected to WiFi (see the Particle Photon page for that).
Flash the firmware (spaceshark.ino, which you downloaded earlier) to your device from https://build.particle.io/build or the Particle IDE.
If your device flashes successfully, your Space Shark should now begin "homing". It will rotate until it intercepts the opto-interrupter,
Re-orient the shark - you may not have put the shark on at the "0" position, so take it off and put it back on the servo so that it points horizontally. Do this after it has homed.
Make sure to align the "Space Shark" text on the dome with North. Equivalently, once your Space Shark has homed, orient it so the shark is pointing horizontally at North.
Run the Space Shark python code (spaceshark.py).
Open provided web address.
Type in device ID and access code (if you go to https://build.particle.io/build you can find your device ID and access code).
Select object and click point!

Your Space Shark should now point at the desired object and will track it as it moves across the sky.
