What is Chemistry?

Chemistry is the branch of Science which involves Elements, Reactions and the science of matter. All substances are made up of matter.

There are three kinds of substances-Mixtures, Compounds and Elements.

Elements

Elements are the substances that contain only one type of atom(s).For e.g. Carbon, Hydrogen etc.

Compounds

Compounds are the substances with two or more types of atoms that are chemically attached together. For e.g. CO2.

Mixtures

Mixtures are many elements or compounds or both mixed, which means some two compounds will not be attached with the other.

Chemical Equations

Chemical Equations are the Equations which give us information about a reaction. Reactions consists of two Elements, Compounds or both to form a product. For e.g. H2+O2 =H2O, C+O2=C02 etc.

There are a total of 118 known Elements. They have a Symbol to ease writing a Equation.

Atomicity

Atomicity is the number of Atoms in an Element. For e.g. Oxygen has 2 atoms shown in its symbol O2 .If a number has no number, it means that the element has only one atom shown by its symbol e.g. C (Carbon) has 1 atom.
