A workshop at Macquarie University
Wednesday 19 February - Thursday 20 February 2025
We invite you to participate in a unique workshop focused on Australian engagement in the field of space-based astronomy. With an ongoing array of international programs, including major initiatives like the James Webb Space Telescope and Euclid, along with numerous smaller facilities spearheaded by NASA, ESA, and other national space agencies, the opportunity for groundbreaking astronomical research from space has never been more promising. In addition, access to space is currently undergoing a revolution in the commercial sector and with Starship promising to regularly launch 100 tonnes into LEO, dramatic further decreases in launch costs should follow. With an abundance of spacecraft bus, component and services suppliers around the world, Space 2.0 is already here and presents a new opportunity for affordable Australian participation in space instrumentation projects.
This workshop will provide an opportunity to review current projects with Australian astronomers and to discuss innovative pathways for future sovereign capabilities in both space platforms and data fusion.
We welcome 20min contributed talks that
Review current activities in space-based astronomical research in Australia
Propose ideas, initiatives or strategies for future Australian participation in space-based astronomy
See our invited speakers here.
The workshop is free however the number of attendees is limited. To secure your spot, please register before the closing date of 31 January, 2025.
