The Wyoming-Shoreline Exclave is a self-proclaimed autonomous exclave of Westerly, Rhode Island, surrounded on all sides by Richmond, Rhode Island. Wyoming-Shoreline made its formation in February 8th of 2025, declaring itself a part of the Town of Westerly again, which it had formerly been a part of until 1737.
Wyoming-Shoreline holds a small population of just 5 people, making it the area of the least population to the rest of the Town of Westerly, and the smallest with an area of 19.3 acres, with roughly 0.760 acres of the exclave being water. At its closest point, Wyoming-Shoreline is 8.5 miles from mainland Westerly.
Wyoming-Shoreline is combining the name of Shoreline Drive and the Village of Wyoming which surrounds the Wyoming-Shoreline Exclave. We hold the name proudly, after declaring our separation from the Town of Richmond, RI in favor of returning to the Town of Westerly after 288 years.
Wyoming-Shoreline despite its relatively small size has a range of sports practiced, including Lacrosse, Volleyball, and formerly Soccer. Sports practiced by Wyoming-Shoreline are commonly funded by the Towns of Richmond and Westerly, than privately funded, allowing for easier accessibility to sports.
The Wyoming-Shoreline Exclave because of its relatively small size in terms of power, income, and resources, has to rely on the Town of Richmond, while in terms of water ad production, does produce product of farmstock in eggs, and has its own water systems independent from the surrounding Richmond, RI.
We run on a 3-seat council based system, with a council manager, and two council men to decide what happens within the exclave. We do not however have our own seals, or symbols, as similarly to any other village in Westerly, we only use the Westerly town symbols such as the flag. In terms of education, the Exclave Village of Wyoming-Shoreline relies on both the Chariho Regional School District and on the Westerly Public Schools for education of local residents.
