KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Katherine Lobo, TESOL's 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners

Katherine Lobo is an ESL teacher with experience in both private and public schools in the US as well as in Australia, Hong Kong and Japan. Presently she is an ESL teacher at the Day Middle School (grade 6-8) in Newton Massachusetts, and she is an Adjunct Professor at Brandeis University and Lesley University in Waltham and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Kathy has extensive experience conducting workshops and making presentations that include visits in Australia, China, Sudan and the United States. She has served on professional boards for the Massachusetts Association of Bilingual Educators (MABE) and the Massachusetts Educators of English Language Learners (MATSOL). Presently she serves on the Board of Directors for TESOL International.

Kathy will also be presenting two sessions on practical application of TESOL's 6 Principles in the classroom.

FEATURED PRESENTER

Beth Skelton, The Language of Math

Beth Skelton earned her Master’s Degree in Multicultural Teacher Education from the University of New Mexico and taught English learners at many levels. She has coached, consulted, and presented in a variety of school settings across the US and around the world. From 2010 to 2013, she served as the program coordinator for English as an Additional Language (EAL) at the Bavarian International School in Munich, Germany. Her expertise includes Harvard Project Zero; the International Baccalaureate English B course; instructional coaching; the WIDA standards; Marzano’s Strategies that Work for English Language Learners; Kagan Cooperative Learning; Total Physical Response; and the Common Core for English Language Learners. She has also published student and teacher materials for adult English Learners entitled Putting it Together, which have been translated into Spanish, Dutch, and sign language. Beth is flying in from Colorado to present two sessions addressing ELs and Math.
